I can't avoid filling a game with awful memes, even if I want to. It's in my bones...!
The only bugs I've suffered have been 100% self-inflicted. :v:

I get being annoyed that the game isn't running poo poo hot on the best hardware, though (and from looking at the JSONs, some of the loading decisions are... curious).

Meanwhile I really want to find the hiring hall JSON or get it confirmed that all you need to do is add a pilot to VersionManifest to make them appear in the hiring hall before I start my For Real Campaign - I'm not sure if that info will update once the campaign starts, given how much is loaded into the save ahead of time.

Hope this helps some people because to try to get a support ticket rolling you have to log into your account and, uh, that's a bit problematic because the two are same same account.

Thats also the link you get when you go to the paradox site. Im lucky that I just remembered my old password after waiting 5 minutes for the email, but I look forward to when paradox patches their broken password recovery to be an engaging, interesting system 6 months from now

Ok, the dropship landing on your mech's bug really needs to get fixed. Finished a contract before the story started up, killed the last mech and got "Dropship inbound" message followed by losing a Shadow Hawk, a Spider, the spider pilot is dead and the Hawk pilot is in the infirmary for 110 days. Seriously? No one can see the giant rear end dropship coming down and move a few feet out of the way? Good game otherwise, but damned if I'm not gonna restart after that.

The travails of we who want our custom nerds in the game. :smith:

I really want to see if there are any hiring hall-specific settings to mess with in order to make certain people show up before starting my for real campaign.

edit: though with another examination, I'm guessing all you need to do is flip "IsRonin" to "true" in a pilot's JSON and make sure they're in VersionManifest and that will propagate them out to the merc list. Be nice to be sure of that, though.

Story mission progress goes: Tutorial/Royal Escort>First Mercenary Mission>Restoring the Argos (you don't get to use it as your ship yet)>Prison Liberation, and then you actually get the Argo afterwards. You do also have to do some random missions in between story missions.

It's the end of mission dropship that doesn't have a marker, it spawns when you clear the map and the problem is, it's loving huge, so on small maps it has nowhere to land but ON MEDUSAS FACE

I can't seem to stop making SRM-loaded brawlers out of all my mechs, how do I get out of this habit?

I'm the same right now, they're super nice on stuff like Centurions and Shadow Hawks - low weight, low heat, high damage. It'll change once you get into the heavy mechs, when the heavier AC's become usable. Speaking of which, I feel like the best quality of the middle ACs is that they extend your brawler's range a bit - I've had a few fights so far where my close-range mechs couldn't do much before they closed the distance.

Just keep at least one long-range mech in the team. The Vindicator and Blackjack aren't awful, but anything with a handful of missile slots and either a ballistic or energy for an LL, or PPC, or AC/5, will do. I turned my second Shadow Hawk into an LRM/AC5 sniper for Weldry. It was... fine. Then i got the Trebuchet off that mission, so I guess that's my missile boat now!

It absolutely is; it's actually completely possible to swap in a whole different initial team of nerds. The JSONs are robust enough that you can actually start with anyone, and even new, totally custom pilots can still be given the "pilot_starter" tag under PilotTags.

The only real meathook right now is that it really seems the game simply will not allow you to start the game without each starter pilot being assigned a 3D portrait asset. Even if you try to be sneaky and put a few extra MechWarriors on your starter list, the game will still load-hang on starting a new game because it tries to find an equal number of StartingMechWarriorPortraits for your StartingMechWarriors. And there just doesn't seem to be a way to null out the 3D portraits in a way that doesn't make the game very upset, and the 3D assets override any 2D assets you have attached to a pilot.

It's literally the only thing keeping me from being up to my eyeballs in mechs right now; it's so silly, but dammit I want my guys to have cool 2D portraits like Mastiff and Kamea do. :smith: And these plans may also be Slightly Anime.

Oh, the save files have also FINALLY been located. they're in [drive]/program files/steam/userdata/[usernumber]/637090/remote/C0/SGS1.

And... they're encoded, not JSONs.

It's definitely going to take either a save editor tool capable of hex maniupulation or an in-game tool to give the Commander a 2D portrait or even revise their 3D portrait.

The game also just hands you what arguably might be the single best long-range sniper 'Mech in the entire setting pre-Clans as part of the story, so that's a major option once you get there.

Got it up and running after a few false starts and it's good. Like it's got some issues like

I run dual screens and there's no bounding on the client so the cursor goes off the side of the screen. This was also an issue in Sea of Thieves so maybe Kiva designs that jank in as a feature?

Loading screens to load the loading screens for the next screen so I can load the loading screen for the loading screen for the mission! I'm running off an SSHD just now, perhaps I'll move it to the SSD to help mitigate this. The graphics also stutter about on a 1060 GTX 6GB so not sure what that's all about.

Enemy Turn....Enemy Turn....Enemy Turn....Enemy Turn.... Your Turn! The initiative system is good but it's also quite unclear, like the number doesn't seem to be on the portrait of the MechWarrior but only above the mech's themselves. With some other general UI issues, where it the moral listed on screen? I can see something costs 20 moral but can't see on the screen where this is. Heat should be a number also so it's easier to fine tune your strikes. It doesn't zoom to the selected MechWarrior when you click on them. Also if it's the enemies turn 5 times in a row please please just say Enemy Turn once. Also a bunch of UI elements need a mouse over to explain what they mean.

Other than that no catastrophic crashes other than some lockups that required a force quit.

It plays fairly well so far albeit slowly, I would not begrudge anyone refunding based on the gameplay really. Looking forward to getting into the campaign assume it doesn't crash and delete my progress at least.

Also can you skip the intro after your first play through?

I'm having a lot of fun tinkering with my dudes but I can totally understand that the game gets boring/repetitive if you're not really into mechs, and load times are a little too long on my five year old computer (not unexpected though). Does (ingame) time pass during the jumping-to-different-system pseudo-cutscene? If not, I wish you could skip it. It's cool but I don't have to see it every time.

Having lots of fun but the experience is kinda marred by:

1. No proper 21:9 support, yes i can select the resolution on the options but all the menus get unworkable(the pick your own story at the start won't let you click on the next button for starters or the start mission button is hidden under the screen), i have to start the missions at 16:9 and once the game has loaded up switch to 21:9, kinda cumbersome for a 2018 game(and there is no 21:9 wallpapers too for the digial deluxe package)

2. Paradox accounts being a forced requirement for multi would be acceptable if the Paradox account platform was reliable, I had a Paradox store account when they had a webstore a long time ago and it seems to have locked my mail from being used to register and obviously the account support require a working set of credentials. I am effectively locked out of multi because of this BS.

Unity being slow as molasses is a given so i'll close an eye on the game dropping to 20 fps when explosion go off on a 32gb ram/i7-6700/1070fe but i would like a little bit more tuning if possible.

The distribution is probably skewed a bit compared to the overall average because people who play PC games are probably more likely to invest in newer/better hardware more regularly.

The vast majority is probably still on 16:9 though. Personally I use dual monitors and dual 21:9 would be far too much real estate on my desk.

so the deal with double heatsinks is that they used to be strictly better than regulars in earlier games, yeah? what's the tradeoff in this iteration?

also, reposting from before: i know pilots are capped on expertise/specialization, but are they capped on skill points as well?

They are kinda of a nice plus when watching movies(no black bars for anamorphic) and the extra side estate is nice for FPS games(to the point that some competitive games will not let run 21:9 or outright ban you from tournaments if you use it).

I think morale at 50% or greater gives your mechwarriors +1 to hit or something like that, and it can then be spent for special triggered abilities like Precision Shot
