Well the Shadowrun games took place across lovely hand drawn backgrounds with some fugly low detail 3d models for the characters. This is just fugly low detail 3d models the whole way down. I mean its not a deal breaker obviously with this style of game but I definitely wouldn't praise it

Okay yeah every time I've read about the art and animation being top notch it's been referring to the cinematics which is what I'm referring to. I get what you're saying about in game. Looks fine to me but then I don't play these types of games often.

Although yes beautiful hand drawn backdrops would be amazing, unfortunately you couldn't rotate your camera in those and that wouldn't work for this type of gameplay.

Agreed. That was pretty cool and I'm still happy with the characters I chose in S:HK.

Most of these games do that these days so just wait and they'll probably release one.

Some of the graphic artists who work in my office have stacks on stacks of art books from video games.

True, but since they included a digital art book, they might make a hard cover version at some point. I know I'm gonna keep my eye out for it.

Downloaded the game last night and am enjoying it so far. I'm a newbie to Battletech so I want to make sure this will work before I put points into it.
1. My light mech hits reserve
2. Enemy mech takes its turn
3. My light mech moves in to flank and shoots.
4. Light mech goes first in the next round because of initiative. With Ace Piloting expertise, my light mech could theoretically shoot FIRST and then move to safety.
5. Enemy mech takes turn, but my light mech is already out of range or safe.

My Day 1 hot take:

This game REALLY needed a bit more time to work out some major bugs. (Camera, strange pauses, resolution support, etc.) Overall gameplay has been generally OK so far other than that. UI is a bit of a mess, but its serviceable.

Only a couple missions into the campaign so far - hopefully the Skyrim Mod Nexus waifu backstory-quality writing improves at some point (Yes, I know it won't.)

Arano or whatever her name is managed to be so annoying by halfway through the first mission that I wanted to sign up with the other side.

Skirmish mode is pretty fun, and ill probably just spend most of my time there.

Yep that is precisely what you should be doing. Also slap on a sensor lock so if you’re out of sight you can still have your bros drop some LRMs on its head.

Awesome. Thanks! Dekker is gonna be a Piloting expert (rank 5 and 8 skills) and a Tactics specialist (just rank 5 skill, Sensor Lock) with any extra put into gunnery so that he has a better shot to hit.

Dekker is my only guy who hasn't really been an MVP so far. Behemoth is like a goddess of death in her Shadowhawk(mostly melee kills). Glitch lost an arm in 3 Years Later (not the PPC arm, thankfully) but still got some pew pew kills. Player Character in Blackjack is kinda underwhelming but that's possibly because I'm using him conservatively and scared of him getting injured badly and being out of commission for a long time.

The engine needs some optimization though, the fps jumps when the battle camera rapidly zooms in, should not happen on a 1080Ti.

So what's the meatiest light mech available? I've been doing this with my Spider Dekker but it's only a matter of time until he gets hosed. I wouldn't mind losing a bit of speed if it could let him survive a direct hit.

A medium 'mech with Master Tactician. A light 'mech is never meaty.

I dunno, it doesn't really matter? I had a 20~odd day injury on my main character and just ran a side mission and then burned some time for repairs and refits afterwards for him to heal.

Lasts until the end of the round iirc so the best way to use it is reserve until the last phase, move in, take your shot, then when the next set of turns happens immediately duck behind cover and sensor lock to paint a target for the LRM barrage.
