WE ARE SMART
The first season of Gumball actually got cut short because they went massively overbudget on the animation. Starting in the second season, they redesigned the characters to be easier to animate and cut back on the appearances of some of the more expensive characters to animate, like Tina Rex.

I have a weird feeling the most expensive part of that clip was licensing the Gremlins theme

Apparently that's not the actual music from that scene :(

Everything else though is still really good in the original. Add in a really awesome film score and a Gumball movie is gonna be dope

I guess the original music was supposed to be reminiscent of Gremlins though?

:psyduck: ok either whoever did that video is a loving wizard or this is a "first run had the actual Gremlin Rag, reruns had a lawyer-friendly version" situation, because when it cuts to that jogger with the headphones on you can still hear the Gremlin Rag playing muffled through his headphones and the sound mixing is really well-done overall

Okay here's the original scene. This is the only one I can find where the music isn't speed up or something to get around Youtube's copyright, so it doesn't have the full scene with the car chase included.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjSxTfl9dEQ

I guess the music IS the same it's just that other one I posted the person edited it so that the music comes in a lot more clearly. Another video I found of the full scene where Gumball's mom is looking into the basement though the music IS different there. I have no idea about the car chase music.

I've never seen Gremlins, but I assume the Gremlins bit is the music played in the headset? If so then yeah, that's totally just the Gremlins song and they had to license it out. I assumed the "gremlins music" also included the other bits so I wasn't sure

edit: it is. Anyway, Gumball movie when

edit: Apparently the bit with the jogger is also supposed to be a parody to the Dead Island 2 commercial

The What a Cartoon podcast just did an episode on Bobby’s World. I know there are a few goons around that remember it fondly so check it out if you need a good nostalgia fix.

Reboot: TGC is actually more unoriginal that I thought. It's literally a recycled show of a failed show from the same showrunner.

I loving HATED Bobby's World. I'd literally watch The Charlie Rose Show, QVC, or the McLaughlin Group before I watch Bobby's World.

The theme song was good though.

Speaking of QVC, does anyone remember when that's all you could watch because every other station was playing Iraq War footage???

I will never understand why Fox gave Howie Mandel and Louie Anderson cartoons. Fox Kids wasn't exactly a bastion of always perfect programming, but they had Taz-Mania, B:TAS, Power Rangers, Sam and Max, The Tick, Animaniacs and Eek the Cat. A Beetle Juice here and Errie Indiana to spin into their own Non Goosebumps creepy for kids show is okay. But what in God's name made a producer think children like Louie Anderson?!

“Hey Home Improvment is killing it in the ratings, what other comedians can we get for new shows?”

“Well, we’re in talks with Louie Anderson but market research suggests he’s too ugly for television.”

“gently caress it, we’ll make his show animated!”

(The real answer is probably that they wanted more shows starring standup comedians since Seinfeld and HI were doing so well but most comedians couldn’t/didn’t want to take the time away from touring to shoot a season so the middle ground was a couple of weeks of animation voiceover work).

The theme song was good though.

Even as a kid I was incapable of caring about Bobby's World, it was just so dull. The show was mostly just cutaway gags recreating scenes from pop culture with zero actual jokes aside from the fact that Bobby was the star, like Muppet Babies only all the actually interesting and entertaining parts yanked out.

The only time I think the show has ever actually made me laugh was as an adult when MBMBAM did a goof about loudly lifting weights at the gym to the Bobby's World theme song.

It was really cheap to make. You could kill a minute or two of each episode with the live-action bumpers, almost all the voices on the show were done by the same three people, and the animation style doesn't look particularly expensive or difficult especially compared to its contemporaries.

Also it was the show that Fox's cartoon block premiered with and Bobby was sorts of its mascot for a good while.

Random as gently caress but you know how libraries have those rolling racks that are basically Take This Useless Donated poo poo Please?

I grabbed some tapes from one in the Valley some years back. Most of them were crap, but one of them had the final mix for the Camp Candy theme song. Guess they wanted something to show some exec or whatever.

You know it would have had
* recurring Alien antagonist with some kind of unique color/feature
* probably a main baddie that was a XenoDroid hybrid wanting to 'spread the perfection of the Aliens across the galaxy'
* specially crafted weapons for each marine on Ripley's Bug Hunter squad
* some cutesy Alienish pet that fights with Ripley's cat
* a S2 or S3 where the Bug Hunters get a badass Artificial Robotic NonLinear Defenser (ARNLD) unit and the weapons shoot nets or energy stun rounds instead of lasers.

Ace Ventura was almost inappropriately appropriate for making an animated series out of. That it was for kids was a bit odd.

Evolution screamed toyetic cash grab too while actually having some neat developments. That it came from a rather mediocre sci-fi action comedy on the heels of MIB was a bit of a surprise.

The MIB animated series, on that note, is a well-known classic. Evolution was by the same people, iirc. (who also did Godzilla The Series and Extreme Ghostbusters, basically specialising in shows that are so much better than they had any right to be mostly because of decent animation and good writing that doesn't talk down to the audience)
