Why shouldn't Avenatti run for office? He obviously has a gift for publicity and self-promotion, fairly decent instincts, and he knows the law. I have no idea if it's something that interests him in any way, but he certainly seems like he'd be a decent candidate.

Some of the special guest episodes are loving amazing. The Adam Curtis one. The Bill Corbett (MST3K) one about Dinesh Th'Louza's loving awful-rear end Hillary movie that was dated before it even came out (lol), the Patton Oswalt ones, the Matt Taibbi ones and Jeremy Scahill ones. Who're both literally the best guests Bill Maher has ever had on, for anyone who recognize their names but aren't sure why.

I posted Chapo's and Cum Town's impressions of JBP on another message board I (used to) enjoy and got severe push back from a few people -- "I'm sick of edgelord bro-casts. Where are the women?" STFU. Reminds me of a Norm bit from when I saw him a few years ago: "Remember when you'd be walking down the hallway in high school and a group of people were surrounding a girl telling jokes and everyone was cracking up. The Jordan Peterson phenomenon is so mystifying to me. Seemingly sensible people take this man very seriously despite his best points boiling down to - as Bill was so excited to say - 'common sense'. Guy spun out a whole book based on the super original and practical advice of "hey, sort out your own problems first-".

Then he just gargles on at length without saying anything of any substance at all, throwing in some pretentious references to Kierkegaard or outdated psycholo-babble about Jungian archetypes. On Overtime he basically goes on two seperate mini-monologues about how "Hey, all the people who like Trump are going to be upset if Trump gets impeached" - and it's like, yeah no poo poo? He's offering nothing to learn from that, no solutions to that, or any real point - it's basically just an incredibly simplistic observation and it's the most he can muster.

Plus we get him slipping in his (unchallenged, thanks Bill) standard rant about the "postmodern cultural marxist leftists" who are ruining society with their political correctness, femininity and, I dunno, unclean rooms.

But let's forget his climate change denial and re-tweeting of anti Black Lives Matter shitposts (despite his very courageous twitter bio including "NOTE: RTs/follows are not to be read unfailingly as endorsements. I sometimes post material with which I do not agree."), and just note Bill Maher's continuing failure to understand that Free Speech is allowed by law but not free of societal consequences, while talking in his New York tough guy voice about kids these days while acknowledging his only information of young people comes from TV shows, while also telling young people they should read more books.

but yeah, new rules had at least a funny joke so I guess I'll keep watching???

i love how even for something as basic as "retweets are not endorsements" he writes redundant poo poo to make it seem more profound.

never understood the phrase anyway - unless you mock in a quote retweet or it's very obviously mockingly retweeting based on your base tweets/retweets (like left wingers retweeting something especially stupid a chud says) it's an endorsement. that's straight up what a retweet is.

The Avenatti aversion was mainly down to the sheer desperation Maher has fell into, almost Moore levels, in terms of looking for some gotcha of a savior in every figure Trump comes to be against in any context---same school of thought that had led him to repeated, unprompted efforts to paint Bush and company with a more favorable brush as if it'll somehow right the world.

So desperate to undo Trump, so desperate to revert---yet not a bit of that enthusiasm can somehow be conjured as to reckon how all of that is what led to him outright.

Ross Douthat has two major segments dedicated to him on Chapo. In episode 3 and 30 (or around 30, I think). His memoirs about being a retard failure at Harvard who didn't gently caress because he is scared of bitches on birth control. His being 'coaxed' into skinny-dipping with another young man for William F. Buckley, Jr. All of it. Gold.

Amazing that there are middle aged men and women in 2018 who are literally so fearful of sexuality that they write garbage Christian propaganda against a dead person. One thing I didn't hear Bill mention is that NORML got its start in the 1970s with grant money from Hugh Hefner.

Also I've never understood why nudity gets lumped in with pornography. Playboy never had sex or anything hardcore in it. Since when is the human body pornographic? Kate Winslet is topless in Titanic and that's a PG-13 movie. Is Titanic porn to these people?

And why is he still on the cross over Franken? It wasn't just that one picture that he resigned. There was a list of allegations of him molesting and forcing himself on women
