I'm half expecting her mother to show up. Back in the day she and her father were arguing about whether they should call her for help, and he made a remark about how she's the only person who's ever been able to get Petunia to admit when she's wrong. But yeah, I've got a theory the entire plot thus far was pretty much only made possible by an extended argument between Petunia and her mother.

I wouldn't call Petunia a horrible person just yet, but she has made horrible decisions and is showing truly scary sides to her. It's definitely not just 4chan I've yet to see a comic comments section without heavy moderation that didn't feature at least one or two real psychos writing incredibly lurid torture porn fanfiction about whatever usually-female character they find mildly disagreeable IMO "is Petunia a bad person" chat is kinda missing the point anyway. She's a person of unexceptional moral fiber in a setting that's a somewhat "liberal" bastion within, basically, the furry Confederacy. It's been broadly implied all along that many of the people palling around with Poppy don't have any real deep-seated moral qualms with stringing up or enslaving every possum in eyesight, it's just their goofy queen passed a law against that recently and also this one's Superwoman, so she gets provisionally treated like a real person. On their own they neither care enough to go out of their way to spite her just for being a possum when it costs them anything, nor would care enough to buck society's norms and go all John Brown on the possums' behalf should someone powerful decree them unpersons again. Now the situation's changed, it's socially acceptable (even desirable!) to gently caress Poppy up, so the mask drops and folks like Petunia can feel justified in venting their id on her.
