It's hard to underestimate what a hot property Halle Berry was at the time, let alone in relation to Bassett.

Captain America, Johnny Storm, Lucas Lee, Snowpiercer guy and The Losers guy. Call it a tie. Chris Evans is also in an animated TMNT, but if you're including voice roles I think plenty of people have both of them beat.

right, it's just that none of the attempts have seemed to be serious efforts at doing it well. the folks who made that trailer seem to Get It on a level that nobody involved with any of the American attempts so far has, so I'd be pretty excited to see what they did with a full-on adaptation.

I mean, I don't exactly know what's worse, this or a $200 million Russel Crow flop, but one of them needs to tie into the recent King Arthur for Cinematic Universe appeal.

There was that brief period with Hunger Games, Avengers, and Brave causing a spike in people taking up archery. This may be apocryphal since I don't care enough to look it up, but don't underestimate the invisible hand of Big Archery guiding these decisions.

That being said Robin Hood is more interesting than Hawkeye.

i mean, i don't think that's really the problem, a hero whose name is associated with stealing from the rich and giving to the poor is like the most timely loving thing humanly possible and "grim and dark" is probably at least somewhat the right tone for it nowadays

they just can't figure out how to do it in a way that actually clicks with people, and i'm honestly pretty sure they'd have to do a modern-day version for that to happen

e: get Neill Blomkamp on a near-future cyberpunk Robin Hood who robs corporations and distributes the money in the slums. he could use a badass sci-fi compound bow that shoots explosive-tipped arrows or something.

These guys (and some others) also did the similar Ghost in the Shell tribute maybe five or so years back. That got them work on the ScarJo adaptation doing some concept bits. If only that film had found such talents for the other aspects of production.

Those shots of the city get how I’d want an Akira adaptation to perfectly. Sadly, we’d probably wind up with a Blade Runner wannabe aesthetic if it ever does happen.
