It's the time of year when the swallows come back from Africa, which is always lovely, but yesterday was sort of special; I was sitting outside in the sunshine when suddenly a huge burst of swallow twittering broke out just beside me, it was just so loud and joyful I went over to see what was happening.

Just as I got to where it was loudest, I saw a pair of swallows zooming out from the shed they've been nesting in for the last two years, still singing together. I think maybe they are just really happy to be back :3:

This one is technically NWS but there's no humans or actual genitals in it so use your own judgement. It makes me giggle every time I look at it because that cockatiel looks so jazzed.

"A bit small for me" hmmm do they mean as a perch or for other reasons?

Yes.
I do think that's probably a bit too small for a human's perch, yeah.

Anyone know what this guy is, seen in Vermont?

He should be an eastern bluebird but doesn't look like any of the pics I can see.

(Is there an actual bird watchers thread around somewhere?)

edit: Indigo Bunting maybe?

sometimes a bird just likes to have a fancy butt

real reason: it's how they bring nesting materials back

It is for carrying nesting materials. But you shouldn't let them do it unless you intend to breed them, because it makes them mean and broody. Once the female gets broody she will keep laying eggs whether she has a mate or not. So it's another one of those things that is both cute and indicates the human involved is a moron.

Pet parrots are not chickens and don't lay large or particularly tasty eggs, or do so in large clutches. Parrots are also much smaller, and producing eggs can be hard on a female's body.

today's theme is:

cockatiels are the best and if you think otherwise you are wrong & should re-examine your life choices

cockatiels are just good reliable bros who are kind of dumb but love you

they are super charming

& also charmingly rebellious

they are v cultured and international

and they are cautiously optimistic about new friends

they enjoy predicaments

the babies are so cute you'll poo poo youself
