The Accord already has what is more or less a detuned CTR motor, they make more whp than a CTR after a flash.

I may have a dealer talked down to sub-$40k on a blue 2018 Focus RS.

I've test driven and it's a hoot. Way too much grip. I'd like to sit in a Type R also just for comparison...

I've seen 2017s go for that, but not 2018s. I'm likely sitting on the decision until late this month or next month, if I even do it.

The vband adapter plate that bolts to the end of the manifold has a habit of working its way loose due to vibration and poor kit design (needs locking washers imo). It worked its way loose at my track event, but the exhaust leak didn't really show up til my drive home. By the time I pulled the manifold, all the studs were chewed to gently caress by vibration, and I managed to break one trying to remove it. I can't seem to get the broken chunk of stud out of my manifold, so I am going to take it and the adapter to an exhaust shop tomorrow and have them weld the whole loving thing together so I never have to touch it again.

Or maybe I'll set the car on fire and buy a minivan with the insurance money

Minivans are extremely practical and reliable.

Test drove the Civic SI my head hit the roof and I couldn't figure out how to get the seat to lower. The hatch was fine but they didn't have an LX only a sport. The civic sedan lx though was better in every way except no turbo. I think with a new head and exhaust and SI differential swap it might work. Not sure if that differential swap is a bolt in since the engine is different need to check.

I ended up bailing on my FoRS deal, just couldn't justify 39k before test driving a lot more poo poo. Plus I could get a mildly used FiST for dirt and do some power mods for half that.

The whole thing is just a bad design. The shape of the adapters causes the tops of the screws to be captured between the top and bottom of the adapter, so you cant use a socket or even a ratcheting box wrench on em. Bonus issue, knock sensors do NOT like a rattling piece of metal attached to your exhaust manifold. I was getting tons of false knock at clutch out, which wasnt going to break anything, but was just another irritant caused by this kit.

Talked to an exhaust shop this morning, going to drop off the pieces and see what they can do for me.

yeah its a great car for what it is, but 40k...no. Any hot hatch gets eliminated when it reaches Mustang GT premium PP territory IMO. Especially when its still a cheap as poo poo focus.

One of the main reasons I got my Mustang instead of an RS. 460hp for essentially the same money.

I think that people look at stuff a bit too objectively when you start comparing a Focus RS to a Mustang, like just up an excise emotion from the equation.

If someone goes "Why buy an RS when you can get a Mustang for same price?" I could use the same logic and go "Yeah but instead of a Mustang why not an F-150?"

A Mustang is not a Focus RS, and now with Ford killing the whole car thing it won't be worth as much later either :v:

That's why I said IMO. Little objective about it....other than still being a cheap as balls focus.

Your comparison also doesn't work...as we're comparing sports cars.

The RS was easily the best test drive I've ever experienced, but I really owe it to myself to test out a 997 911, m235i, macan s, civic Type R etc before i drop the cash. I may still end up with an RS but I can't just make a rash decesion on a car that costs more than my wife spent on college+grad school combined

Pretty much that, other than they all have the RS2 interior package. (electrically adjustable Recaro seats, and entertainment system?) I'd like to have a blue one. (choices limited to 2018 colors)

Outside of that I'd rather not have to buy $1400 in differential and bearings and then split the front transmission case because I want the car to handle properly.

Outside of that? It's the same.

Except I don't want to try and jam a bunch of snowboarding gear into a Mustang and then drive it into the mountains during any good snowboarding days. I'm single and alone 99.9999% of the time but still have trouble envisioning life without a 4 door hatch as my daily.
