Hyperoptic are awesome. See a problem/opportunity and instead of endless whinging to Ofcom via press releases they just get on and prove that they had the right ideas.

I now live out in the sticks in Scotland. 80mbps down, 20 up.

Ugh. I went from having forgotten that things actually take time to download and not caring about ever saturating the connection to... well things taking up to half an hour to download and settling bandwidth limits on servers...

Sigh.

On the plus side: you are now surrounded by friendly sheep instead of City Wankers. That's got to be worth something.

Near King George V station? I looked around there but the area seemed a bit run down compared to the newer developments north of it.

How did you find it? Safe? Noisy?

I'm on 50mbps for Comcast. I max at around 2.9mbps/sec Steam or otherwise direct downloads.

Maybe I'm just old but I still remember modem download speeds, and I can live with what I'm getting pretty happily.

What, really? I am in Greymouth and could have gigabit down fibre. If I was in the fibre area. Work runs 2 gigabit lines. Sadly my house is outside the zone so have to make do with 40/10 vdsl.

You're too far away from your local cabinet and your building owners are too cheap or too lazy to have fibre conduit run through the building. (I work for Spark)

Had to fix our own exchange server. The front-end connector broke causing mail to not come in.

Once I figured that out and got it fixed I discovered that when one of my coworkers accidentally all the firewall rules and NAT policies he didn't put the LDAPS policies back in. This caused our Roaring Penguin spam filter to stop delivering messages as it was unable to reach our AD server to figure out where to route mail.

Actually, Danish fibre speeds have been downgraded to VDSL2 speeds because "the Danes don't care about fiber optics" according to their BT-equivalent phone company.
