Yair is cool and fun but I'm not too shook up about this. Fighters with silly, meaningless numbers next to their name refusing to fight those without is getting to be a really common problem in the UFC and maybe this'll make guys more hesitant to just sit out until they're offered the most favorable matchup possible.

For a company that is increasingly focused on super fights and self promotion earning title shots, it's bullshit to cut a fighter for not wanting to build up a chain of solid wins against dangerous but unknown fighters. Also  at using a BJ Penn return to build up a guy to feed him to Frankie Edgar and then cut him.

According to Dana, Yair had also turned down a fight against Ricardo Lamas. Dana White tweeted "Real News" late last night, that was in response to Yair calling the fight between him and Magomedsharipov "Fake News".quote:“The guy’s off a year, rejects a fight with Lamas and then doesn’t want to fight a guy below him in the rankings?” White said. “He can go somewhere else. We have no use for him. He calls that fight fake news. This is real news.”

on the other hand I don't think Yair will ever be champ and there's more entertainment value in it for me to see him head kick multiple random Brazillians and occasionally get smashed by a top contender than to just see him get smashed 0-2 and then disappear. Then again if he puts poo poo back together I'll get to see those head kicks on gifs of Combate Americas and in 3 years he'll make a UFC return to get beaten up by Josh Emmet.

According to MMAFighting.com, Brazil's AC was just going to give 10% of Dern's purse to Cooper, but the UFC then stepped in and basically said "no, gently caress that. If she agrees to the fight, then Cooper's getting 30%"

I fully agree that fighters should not jocky for fights based on rankings, but Dana White also has the power to deincintivize that by removing the weird lovely Reebok sponsorship structure that effectively makes fast tracking yourself to a title the only way to get paid without taking a zillion fights a year.
