Got back from Sunflower Bean show, holy hell are they phenomenal. They have a Neil Young cover in their set that is unreal, the entire room went silent and soaked it all in. See this band at all cost.

I quite like the new Arctic Monkeys but man its some balls to release this as the 5 year awaited followup to your mainstream breakout album dang. OK computer -> kid A comparisons are not misplaced. It will take more listens to have a real opinion on it, it's not a 'catchy' album at all.

The chorus of the first track on the new Beach House album is mixed so strangely and sounds so bad that I was 100% certain one of my Chrome tabs was playing music, and had to rewind a few times to make sure that's actually how it was supposed to sound. This album has been getting really good reviews, and it's not bad, but I dunno... I really don't think any of their recent albums hold a candle to Teen Dream or Bloom.

Anyone know of any bands similar to Neutral Milk Hotel? I've been on a kick and listened to all of their poo poo 3 times over today and I want more. I've listened to a few songs by the Music Tapes, and I don't really dig them, sadly.

You might like them. Picaresque, The Crane Wife, and their new album I'll Be Your Girl are my favorite albums by them, and also the 18-minute, five-part epic "The Tain," which was released as an EP. All their stuff sounds more polished than Neutral Milk Hotel (both more folksy and cleaner-sounding when they rock out), but they're fantastic.

Just when I'm trying to figure out how I can afford Courtney Barnett tickets, Wolf Alice and Nadia Reid announce shows too. This year has been incredible for smaller acts compared to the last few.
