Anyone seen Fever Ray live? Thinking of getting a ticket for the Chicago show tho I'm only a bit familiar with the new album.

poo poo looks crazy.

Outstanding lighting and a great live performance. The percussionists and keyboardist did a lot of heavy lifting for the live sound, and Karin and her backup singers were truly outlandish. A one-of-a-kind experience, and still great for someone like me doesn't really care for the new album. The way the old songs were reinterpreted was pretty surprising, and it was so good to hear songs like "When I Grow Up" and "Concrete Walls" live.

Fever Ray and The Knife have been fairly good to Chicago with tour dates in the past, but this was the first time (I think?) she visited DC, and I don't know if she'll ever come back, so I couldn't miss the opportunity, and I'm glad I didn't.

Thanks, The Neon Light. My first intro to her stuff was Plunge, but I can see where people are coming from. The first record is v. different. I need to start listening to The Knife when I have some time to listen to new stuff.

also: speaking of Chicago and awesome bands with ladies therein, Hinds is playing tonight at Lincoln Hall they are always so so fun.

Anyone know of any bands similar to Neutral Milk Hotel? I've been on a kick and listened to all of their poo poo 3 times over today and I want more. I've listened to a few songs by the Music Tapes, and I don't really dig them, sadly.

The Microphones has always felt similar to me, in terms of creative lo-fi indie folk/rock.

Also seconding the Olivia Tremor Control recommendation, assuming you're cool with some really weird experimentation

I saw Hinds again last night with my wife and they were more phenomenal than usual, and they are usually phenomenal. Truly they are the unstoppable juggernaut of indie music from Spain.

Twin Peaks showed up, as usual, and there was shoulder-riding while playing and signing, and at some point the Twin Peaks dudes came out to spray bottles of champagne onto the front rows. It was a great crowd and the whole place was crowded and bouncing. Hinds is the best.

Not sure if this should go here or the "help me find a song" thread, but I'm looking for an artist. She's a black (not sure if American) female folk singer. I saw her at a music festival maybe 3-6 years ago, she had one album which I listened to for a while. I just recalled the music but I can't remember her name or find her in my scrobble history. She doesn't go by her real name, I don't think.

The music is just her voice and her guitar, and a drummer. The song structure is very free-form, without choruses if i remember correctly. It's very slow, dusky, dreary, etc., a similar mood to say Sharon van Etten, with most songs slowly building to a crescendo in kind of a post-rock structure. The drummer mostly stays out of it until the crescendos.

I was hoping black female folk singer would narrow it down enough, but google's not helping. Maybe she never put out a second album.

drat right it is, its one of the best line up duos I could ever have hoped for. Unfortunately, Peyton from SP got sick and like passed out in the venues bathroom here and they didn't play. Fortunately I've seen them a few times already, but it still really bummed me out I couldn't see them again.

It's because it was that David Lynch fest, David Lynch is weird.. so... yeah. It was some performance art piece about under water reefs apparently. I wouldn't be shocked if I saw that, and they've always kind of been weird about choices of songs for their sets and did some noodly, wackoff type avant garde stuff even at their most popular.

Yes I’ve seen them like 7 times and it varies in terms of sets. However I’ve never seen them do performance art so that was just a let down. Would have been nice to know in advance that it wasn’t going to be any of their actual music

I liked Courtney Barnett's first album, and Sea Lice was decent, but man, I am really loving the new album. The latter half is especially good.

Also, I saw HAIM a few weeks ago, and while I have enjoyed their two albums, seeing them live really made me appreciate them more. They were fun to see on stage.
