If attempting to find horror content of ANY value what-so-ever on youtube has taught me anything, you need some big red circles to illustrate the areas you're talking about. Really makes the thumbnail pop.

10+ years ago when screamers were really popular that would be one of the ways they got you, using a red circle to keep you focused on the video long enough to throw the screamer up.

Yeah, that's pretty much the best one alongside the Local58 videos. There's a lot of good short horror online, though on youtube at least it's often buried under aggregators now when you search, and there's not a lot with the very low-key self-seriousness and production values of those two sources. It also looks like Kris Straub scrubbed some of his videos when he made it to a larger audience and got his tv and movie stuff rolling, I assume for use in that media, so some Local58 content is no longer available.

I tried to put together a few other recommendations, but it is goddamned difficult to find anything but aggregators and digging through those is slow on my crappy connection.

Horror shorts:
Short horror film 'Destination Reached' is well-made and has a neat ending. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVnIGANil_I
'REAL DEMONS CAUGHT ON TAPE' is an amusing little cgi short from ages ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEVfREVGcaY
'Lights Out' is pretty well-known, but is a well-made short. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FUQhNGEu2KA
I would have recommended The Poughkeepsie Tapes as a decent example of the 'fake documentary' horror film, but apparently that finally got a rerelease last year.

Broadcast intrusions:
The Max Headroom broadcast intrusion was fascinating; it's not exactly all that creepy, but it's interesting that it's one of the very few times a major signal hijacking has gone unsolved. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWdgAMYjYSs
The 1977 Southern Television broadcast intrusion was among the first of its kind, similarly unsolved. The audio signal of a UHF transmission was hijacked to transmit a message from 'Ashtar Galactic Command'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l6Wpwvf7M_w
While television broadcast intrusions are relatively rare and are largely a thing of the past, as recently as 2013 there was at least one hack of early warning systems to warn of a zombie apocalypse (the dude struck multiple stations in short order and was pretty much immediately caught). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UN7SsI0kajw

Real life footage:
The last known footage of Elisa Lam before her disappearance (and eventual discovery in the rooftop water tank of her hotel) is a little difficult to watch, knowing how it turns out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3TjVBpyTeZM
I've mentioned it before in the thread, but lighter watching is cool-rear end loving weird bigfin squid footage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDW4IYVlbbw

I mean, dude was probably just some bored hologram-janitor bored to tears sitting around in a probe or something. If it was really an official message, you'd think they could have cleaned up the signal some.

When you look at the time it happened in, it was pretty creepy. I was one of the people watching when it happened and it was freaky that a broadcast signal could be just broken into like that. Ah, the simpler times before the Internet...

I swear there was a cable television hijack when I was a teen in Memphis in the early 90s. I found a station that's logo was Tombstone with a Triangle on it and it showed weird poo poo like Church of the Subgenius videos and public domain kaiju and horror movies, like MST3K without the MST3K. It had electronically distorted voices during channel breaks and tones that, in retrospect, remind me of the tones used in movies like The Ring to intentionally make you feel uneasy. I want to say the name of the station had "One" in it. It wasn't "Channel One", that' something else entirely.
I called the cable company to say how much I liked their new channel. They had no idea what I was talking about and shortly afterwards, the channel disappeared.
I've never been able to find out what happened or how it happened. This was before search engines were even a thing so I guess I'll never know.
