Reminder that Dumoulin would have lost the Giro doing this exact thing last year if it wasnt for Bob Jungles helping him bring back an attack like this.

At least he had big rides after the making GBS threads incidents. This whining that people aren't working to get him up to Yates when he's barely put his nose in the wind is kind of pathetic.

Tbf hes really only facing Pinot and Pozzovivo for the Giro on full form. Dumoulin, Aru and Froome are all going to race the tour too so came in not fully fit.

Seriously its like they learnt nothing from last year about Dumoulin. If you attack he wont chase you, he'll just sit and stare at his power meter until he catches up because everyone else is more concerned about their 2nd place than pushing on. Then theres Yates whos just like 'whatever bye'.

You have to be good enough to do that though, both physically and mentally. I don't think Quintana and nibbles were that good last year. Yates clearly is, he's in a great mindset, only thinking about the current stage. I give Dumoulin major points for even coming back this year, he faces much broader opposition on a far less suitable (for him) course. In interviews he professes he just thinks the giro is far more exciting than the tour, and his choices only confirm that. Giro is emotion, tour is reason, he feels he should do giro. Also tour is not a goal for him only if he feels he recovers enough and in time.

Lol: His directeur sportif at Mitchelton-Scott, Matt White, put it differently: “We’re going to take a kicking from one of the best time triallists in the world.” Not sure you want to be that honest tbh.

I reckon he'll be shipping 1.5-2mins to Dumoulin on Tuesday, but it seems like on current pace he'll be able to defend any losses on the remaining mountains unless he blows up spectacularly this week

If he keeps even remotely close to his current form, the TT won't matter one bit. There's still three mountain stages coming up.
