Mostly they'll need to recolor existing ones, change elements, give variant move-sets and it's done. You would absolutely need to whip up new models for the alolan Pokemon, these aren't just shiny versions. Also all their Pokemon are just reused assets from sun/moon anyway so they amount of actual modelling they'll be doing is minimal if any.

Also, the fact that Alolan variants are being released adds credence to the rumor that the Switch Pokemon game is going to have Go integration or at the least will focus on Kanto.

Yeah, the reason this works so well is because the Alolan forms don't have new Pokedex numbers. So we won't be seeing hundreds of empty slots for the next 3 years while we slowly go through the remaining generations. Still gotta wonder how the heck those evolutions are going to work. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I highly doubt it but I wish they'd let us turn existing Exeggutor into Alolan Exeggutor. It'd be really nice to have more dragon killers in the team since there's more legendary bosses of that left than water or rock type.

Marowak is my second favourite Gen 1 poke (Nidoking is my top favourite, because he can learn ALL THE TMs so you load him up with Fire Blast, Thunder, Blizzard, and Surf and go mad). I love every Alola Pokemon except Geodude and Alola Marowak is the perfect spoopy angry ghost mum Marowak I have been waiting for for like twenty years so it's my favourite Alola form.

LONG EGG is great because people are like "wtf this is stupid, Pokemon has really gotten stupid in G7, everything sucks and looks dumb now" And then you point out that LONG EGG first appeared in the box art for the Jungle expansion of the TCG which is about as vintage as you can get. There have been rumours about him becoming real every generation and finally it happened! Pokemon have always sucked and looked dumb, doesn't mean they can't still be cool. E: also I don't watch the anime so I can't confirm my head canon that LONG EGG whaps enemies with his neck like a giraffe

Alolan Raichu was actually my favorite since his psychic / electric fit right in with my team meta. Too bad that means nothing here! I think a good community day would be to release one of the starters from a later unreleased gen, like give us Litten or Rowlet.

When Sun/Moon were new, I was looking all over for Round Owl merch. The plush bin was full of Litten and Popplio but not a Round Owl in sight. Apparently they all sold out really fast because everyone agreed that he was Best Starter. The Global Link last I checked said he was #1 most traded Pokemon on the GTS too. Everyone loves a Round Owl.

When my younger kid decided to get into the Pokemon card game, we got two of those pre-made decks. I got the one with the Alolan dudes - Sandshrew/Sandslash and Vulpix/Ninetales anyway. So it'll be cool to see some of those guys in the game, actually.

I wouldn't get my hopes up about anything else in gen 7. Maybe a slim possibility that if whatever Pokemon thing they announce in E3 has to do with gen 7, they might fast track gen 7 poo poo to promote it. Maybe these Alolan variants of gen 1 is already supposed to be promoting whatever the E3 news is and they'll drop the new Pokemon in the game when the announcement comes out. I have absolutely no faith if any of what I'm guessing is going to be true. Just shooting ideas into the ether.
