the mirror would do well to reflect further

Your spot light cones should all be the same. At this point they all looks different / hand painted. The power of photoshop is that you can make one cone and copy / paste it into new layers. Then make a group mask / layer mask and then add turbulence (noise filter) to break up the cones. Make sure the lighting layer is set to screen for compositing.

Don't try to hand paint so much repetition. It isn't working. It's the sort of thing computer art excels at though.

I love this so much.

Yeah you're right, I did go a bit nuts with the pretty glows. I went back and toned some of the further ones down and worked some more definition to the mermaid with sky reflection on the back, but I think I'll still take another stab at it. Thanks!

A picture with such a silly concept has no right to be this freaking good. This is amazing. I'd genuinely have this printed.

I painted my Marx. I'm still getting used to painting in photoshop. Krita had a function were a brush could be both a mixing brush and only partially opaque, however I can't seem to find this function in Photoshop, because the mix brush seems to only have a solid opacity setting. I didn't realise how much I relied on this feature.

NICE. Massive fan of this kind of art. Can anyone tell me if there's a name for the thing where you hold a thing you drew in front of another thing and take a picture because a cat with evil eyebrows is the height of art? Because there needs to be a name so I can find all of it, along with any rad dogs going nyoom like this in cars.

Orange bike! -the colours and the segmented wheels make me think fruit. Would buy a soda with this bike on it.

Is that a politician? I bet that's a politician. The eyebrows sorta say professor but the hair is too neat for that.

I have no idea if there's an actual term for this sort of style, I just really liked when I saw other people do it and it was an easy way to make a dog drawing out of something that took me a while to make.

I like how intense you got the colors, but as an “also learning/messing around with water color” person, I’d say check out a bunch of YouTube videos of people painting in watercolor, and look at a bunch of finished watercolor paintings.

The main feedback id give right now is that water color is supposed to be built up and layered; here it looks like you maybe laid down an excessive amount of pigment from the get go, and didn’t do the layering part.

Also, USE WATERCOLOR PAPER. Holy hell, learn from my mistakes and always use the right paper.

Take all this with a grain of salt, as I am a horrible painter, I’ve just studied the history of it a lot. If you like the blobbier, more saturated style, you might have fun with acrylics?

I did use watercolor paper, stole it from my daughter. I plan on watching some videos, anyone have any the recommend? I actually used watercolor brush pens instead of regular watercolor for most of it, I wonder if that caused the more intense look? I don't know, the entire medium is new to me. I actually enjoy the blobbier, saturated style, as you put it. So I might look into acrylics. And thanks for the info!

Dumb question from someone who's never touched watercolors. What liquid is she laying down before applying the paints to get that soft texture? Is it just water or is it a medium of some kind?

Its likely water, or a mixture of water and gum Arabic.

Likely what nougat said, or possibly a commercially available resist (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resist)

Either way, the purpose is to keep an area “clean” of pigment. I haven’t worked w it personally, but understand the concept
