Kane is a good player and seven years takes him through age 33, when the Sharks will have $15m invested in a 40-year-old Brent Burns and 38-year-old Marc-Edouard Vlasic.

This also means that San Jose's 2nd round pick they traded to Buffalo turns into a lottery-protected 1st (that just becomes a nonconditional 1st the year after) edit: i didn't see that guys post, but mine is better whatis fucked around with this message at 02:48 on May 23, 2018 |

That Twitter thread just taught me that in signing Kane for 7x7 the Sharks are getting the perfect forward just as he's entering his prime. gently caress.

Evander Kane doesn't seem like the sort of player you should give a 7x7 to, but I guess they can always fix it in the post-lockout amnesty period.

I don’t think I’d want Kane at anymore than 6x6 and even then I think I’d pass. What an awful contract

Kane is basically a "never fulfilled the expectations people had for him" player, because of injuries and just not really being the dominant scoring winger people hyped him to be. He can be a good player but 7x7 could be a disappointment for sure

On the "Habs sign Niemi" thing, Waite put Niemi together in Chicago and put him back together again in Montreal. If the Habs do real bad he'll get the Al Montoya treatment and find his way to some lovely team that thinks they can refix him again. Having said that, if the Habs do real lovely this year we're gonna see an Ottawa-esque firesale.

Duck Rodgers posted:Mason isn't a problem, he only has 1 year left. He'll be gone when Wheeler, Connor and Laine need new contracts. One of Kulikov or Myers needs to go. They can't have a third pair making over 9 million. But that shouldn't be a problem until next offseason anyways, and at that point Myers will be UFA. The only way they get in cap trouble this year is if they really want to sign Stastny, but they don't need him. They were one of the best in the league before he came over. The real problem will be next offseason. A Typical Goon posted:Mason’s contract expires next year and won’t affect any of their re-signings and Kulikov is good Doesn't having the ~8 million or so in cap space tied up in those two guys affect re-signing their massive list of RFAs? Looking at Cap Friendly the only UFA I could see them bringing back is Enstrom maybe if he comes back on a cheap deal, but they can probably just let him walk at this point.

I don’t mind the Kane contract, he’ll be 33 when it’s over? He’s put up decent numbers on some pretty poor teams, if he can get a full 82 game season under his belt it should be fine.

I think they have enough room for their RFAs this year, unless they want to re-sign Stastny. They have 20 million in cap space, and most people expect the cap to go up a decent amount. The real problem is next year when they have to sign Wheeler, Laine and Connor on top of the signings this year.
