its pretty weird how they offered GamePass for $1 to try it out for a month, given that it doesnt actually do anything besides give you access to a bunch of games, which is very obvious. its not like it has some extra perks or anything you can only really verify the value of by signing up for it. Im guessing the only reason they offered it was to a) boost subscriptions to make charts look nice and b) rake in a few months from people who forget to unsub. I got $1 refunded because I cancelled it early after discovering that the only games I had even a passing interest in were actually garbage.

All of Halo. I've put more time into all Halo games/multiplayer than every other game I've played combined and I am confident that Halo 5 has the best multiplayer. It's got good netcode, and a return to map and power weapon control. The additional movement options bring it to parity with modern shooters.

Didn't they gently caress the dog with BTB in terms of things like only the killing shot counting for taking down the big beasties, and the way things were organized just making it way too easy for games to be "won" (as in the game is still going but the outcome is pretty much certain) pretty much immediately?

That's warzone totally separate from BTB social or any ranked modes. Warzone is toxic the last shot from whatever team gets the points and it's usually stacked teams with extremely one sided matches. That's the mode that's like firefight with btb sprinkled in where you can use cards to spawn with crazy overpowered poo poo. Basically warzone is poop which sucks because there's some awesome variants of the stock weapons you don't ever get to use in multiplayer outside of special events.

I played Halo 5 for about 30 seconds before I realized that every time you get hit it pulls you out of ADS. Who thought that was a good idea?

Don't get hit  It's really weird and the only thing I can think of is that they didn't want to model a "shake on hit", since all the other guns have zero recoil they would have to put that system in exclusively for that.

I mean I'll even admit that 4 or 5 (I forget which one I played) was a more successful blending of COD and Halo-ish arena play than I expected but there's no possible metric besides personal taste that I could imagine anyone calling them better than the really good Halos.

Warzone being the only available gametype with more than 4 players per team is what killed halo 5. the games were decided within the first few minutes and it was just not in any way fun to play. the competitive playlist IS VERY GOOD. playing with friends is great, but sometimes you want to play unranked or solo queue. BTB being restricted to the ugly as gently caress Forge maps was also a huuuuuge misstep. I dont know how many people from Bungie (if any) were still at 343 but its very obvious that the map design and gameplay team are no longer the same people.

Man, I added Dead Space 2 to my library last month when it was free but didn't download it. Now MS is trying to charge me $20 for it. What the hell? I'm guessing if I call them they aren't going to be sympathetic and give me it for free. That was the first GWG game I was actually excited to get too.

I got dead space 1 free somehow in march and when i tried to play it in may it said i needed to pay up. Was that like some timed promotion? I totally forget how i got it but i even played a chapter at the time.
