I played the Wii U and 3ds versions without knowing there's a block button.

I swear the game never tells you about blocking, I swear! :negative:

Does the game ever specifically tell you what will be needed to achieve A rank on each battle? The ones I'm seeing now show rewards for A rank, but not how to achieve A rank.

Getting hit while blocking pushes you back, it’s easy to get stuck in a block-stun loop, and guards break very easily anyway. Blocking sucks in this game.

No but it rarely changes.

On normal maps aim for 1600 KOs (its 1200 on some easier maps but you can't know which one you're on) less than 120 damage (Percentage of the chatacters overall health lost, you can see in the upper right of the pause screen how you're doing on the current map) and under 15 minutes of time.

For other map types this changes a bit obviously but its usually straightforward. Quiz maps need you to ko the right enemy in all 3 keeps and keep under the damage threshold, All Attacks are Devestating means kill all the officers without getting hit etc (protip use the bow in these stages, it trivializes them)

This game is funny. There are so many things about it that could and should be done better, but the moment to moment gameplay is hugely fun and addictive, and there's like 8 metric poo poo tons of stuff to do and content unlock, and it's setup to be one of those games that's basically infinitely replayable.

I can see myself spending hundreds of hours playing this.

Bait them by running in close then way out of their range so they don't ever trigger the poison poo poo that takes years. Also if you can just juggle them to death, its pretty easy for most characters and as long as you aren't horrifically underlevelled/undergeared it won't take long even without weak point smashes.

But super predictable. Eventually you'll learn the timing for when you can run back in before the weakpoint meter drops (tip: hit them with a bow to keep the meter up a little longer if you're not super sure you'll get back in in time). You can start running in juuust about when they stop spewing from the mouth but before the cloud fully dissipates.

Use the bow. Stay just out of range of their freezing attack and fire the bow when the weak point gauge appears, then dodge in and start whaling on 'em.

The bow is your friend here too! Hold down your block button, and when his Weak Point gauge appears, shoot the bastard. It'll flinch him, then you can run in and smack him upside the head.

Also as someone else who didn't know about blocking for a long time you can totally dodge-roll through or away from every attack in the game with the single exception of Mandhela's piece of poo poo 4 head seed attack which has idiotic good homing.

Just be dodgy around enemies and they won't hit you or break your guard :black101:

Similarly, unless you're doing literally no visible damage to an enemy its often more effective and faster just to beat on them and stunlock/juggle them than fish for weak point exposes. A bit higher risk than circling them while guarding, but if you can get the timings of their attacks down you can style on them.

Food that's shown as an unlockable is hidden in a brown pot in an enemy keep on that stage, usually (but not always) the enemy home base. After that it'll drop rarely and randomly from officers.

Does the drop rate of food increase the more you collect?

There's a few maps with what look like mushrooms as reward, so I'm just wondering if they're different from eachother and as a result with a wider variety of food that could drop, you end up getting more on average as you play.

Food items are divided into different types of food (plant, fish, meat, weird, etc.) and the various icons indicate a gold drop of that type is hidden on that level. It will always be the same food item, and when you get it the first time, it becomess unlocked as a drop from regular enemies, with different enemies dropping different food so the more food drops you unlock, the more chances you have of getting some food from any battle.

Cool.

Also I've seen since people mention rupees aren't an issue and you'll be swimming in them. That was definitely not the case in the original wii version without extensive grinding. Have things changed so that you're generally much more wealthy for leveling characters up?

Good news! The Imprisoned was improved in the Legend version.

Firstly, he will no longer automatically get up when his Weak Point Gauge is at half!

Second, there's a mechanic where you gather your ally characters around giant boss (Command them to go to that square), and you get various bonuses like increased damage to the Weak Point Gauge and magic refill.

The Imprisoned is still the worst large boss, but he's a lot less miserable than he used to be!
