weird, my wifes old 2006 macbook runs kubuntu 14.04 perfectly well, except for the default keyboard shortcuts assuming a PC keyboard and the touchpad not being as nice to use everything works: wifi, sound, power management, ethernet, etc. it was a enormous pain in the rear end to get linux installed on it due to the non-standard efi implementation, but once installded (with rEFInd as i recall) it worked fine

hmmm idk it doesnt seem like that solution would use a half gig of ram to stream a song or have random crashes where the GUI stops responding then you have to manually kill the process while it continues to suck up memory in the background
