Watch Dogs 2 is genuinely a good rear end game for all the reasons stated. No longer are you a socially isolated white terrorist actively ignoring your few human contacts begging you to stop being a psycho, instead you're just a nerdy black dude who already has genuine beef with the system who teams up with other misfits and nerds to try to make our cyberpunk future a bit less hellish. I also enjoy that (aside from it being kinda ~movie magic~ to explain why it's TOTALLY NON-LETHAL to blast a guy in the skull with a compressed air shotgun or whatever) you can genuinely be a non-lethal guy. Not near enough open world games make that a possibility.

Also it's just a lot more fun. There's more poo poo to do, the tone is WAY better, there's fun tricks and tools. It's just a more fun game. I genuinely hope for a Watch Dogs 3 with the same kinda design ethos.

save for examples like Uncharted 4, where basically the entire development team got a crash course in story telling and cinematic writing

There's also the issue that everything is on a tight schedule, plus all the AAA stuff has to be fully voiced, which means that writers have to churn out their story, then get no opportunity to tweak or edit later because that'd require new recordings and paying the actors more.

who's your favorite Watch Dogs 2 character? mine is Horatio, the guy who barely appears in the first half or so of the game, shows up for one mission to be a cipher for the plight of black people in tech, then gets murdered for basically no reason because I guess his role in the story was done and this story needs to have SOME cheap pathos

Watch_Dogs 2 is a game I couldn't get into at all. I played through the whole thing because I liked the characters and wanted to see where the story went but the gameplay just didn't grab me. I mostly just played it like a 3rd person shooter - icing dudes with assault rifles the entire time.

Nah reality tv is probably one of the easiest things to get information about. My problem with making videos about it is that there is a very specific tone that reality tv podcasts/reviews have that I wouldn't fit into. But I would really love to talk about the production, people and history of "trashy" reality shows.

The game does give you a bit of flexibility in terms of how you complete objectives. In a lot of cases, you can complete tasks by using your little remote control car to sneak through an area and hack a computer without actually stepping foot into a restricted area. It got really fun for me when I realized that you could attach your stun mines to the RC car and flyer, drive them towards targets, and then detonate them once you were in range. Couple that with the ability to take control of forklifts and scissor lifts, and you can really cheese some of the missions.

I wish the stealth was a little better, though, because it seems like enemies can pick up on you or the RC car really fast.

Yeah, the hacking stuff was the stuff I couldn't get in to. When it came to the open world it was fun, albeit very clunky, to use. In the mission areas, however, I found it just simpler and quicker to go in guns blazing.

I've never been a non-believer in the legend that Star Wars was a movie that was created in editing but this video illustrates just the kind of problems that the movie had in development and how editing and editors like Marcia Lucas saved the project.

That's a neat video, thanks.

I'm sure it's a repost but this is a really good look at how editing affected the structure of Star Wars.

Allegedly there's evidence that he was originally supposed to have a full mission string building up the story of the gang activities, but they hastily scrapped it and kept the finale (presumably because it was too late to rewrite entirely) and, oddly enough, one of the surveillance hacks.

Max Wilco posted:

This was my problem with WD2. In theory, everything they added is an improvement on 1 (which I actually liked all by itself) but there's lots of little problems with the new features that added up to annoy me. Non-lethal is cool in theory, but in practice it's a huge pain in the rear end and causes more problems than it's worth. The tutorial trains you to use shock traps, but in reality they're noisy as gently caress and knocked out guards will either eventually wake up or be woken up by their pals, which you just alerted with a noisy trap. There's also no way to permanently takedown stunned guards, so if you manage to knock out several it's going to eventually turn into a clusterfuck. The RC car and drone are fun at first, but once you realize that 80% of the game can be completed using solely them it gets kind of tedious. Hiding in your car is more effective, but actually escaping manhunts is otherwise a pain in the rear end because the AI cheats. Mission design is all over the place and it very much felt like totally different teams were in charge of different missions because the mechanics seemed to shift slightly each time; sometimes all you need to do is get the RC car somewhere and you win, other times the designers say no, Marcus has to hack it himself. Or sometimes pursuers just infinitely respawn, defeating the whole point of hacking stuff while driving to dissuade them. The end result feels sloppy underneath all the new shinyness, which ironically is the opposite of how I felt about WD1, where underneath the top layer of muck there was actually something to it.

I actually respect Watch_Dogs more than 2 because at least they tried to tell a serious story with a serious main character. They hosed it up spectacularly, but at least they gave it a shot. Watch_Dogs 2 feels like it's leaning on irreverence to get away with incredibly lazy writing.

Wrench also has a stun grenade launcher and it's actually way easier than going in with the lethal one.

As egh of a thing it is to think of, your chances of getting out of a school shooting are pretty good at least, as long as you're not in the wrong place (Room/area where it kicks off, first person they see at the entrance etc.) or as long as they're not trying to blow the place up like the Columbine guys except it actually works.

Many things he likes are in fact puzzle boxes that are susceptible to game jacking and are completely impenetrable unless you are in fact looking for codes, going to multiple other youtubes twitters or other, and checking the dates on them. He can enjoy things that way so I don't have to.

Mostly I just find it frustrating that dude looks for secret ciphers in works that are obviously not ARGs, or weird "clues" that don't actually lead anywhere, to the point that he misses completely obvious things that break his idea of the secret narrative.

Like the references here are both obviously not gamejacking (because the work doesn't key in at all to anything about THHPII beyond "is video about weird poo poo" and "slice of life") and obviously not related to the overall message.

Just bugs me, because he can be pretty on point normally, but his laser-focused puzzle box mentality really leads him down some stupid cul-de-sacs when the simpler explanation would be "This has no secret meaning, and is just the artist adding something for thematic reasons." Like, I hate the whole "POE WAS JUST SAYING HE LIKES RAVENS, GAWD!" thing but sometimes dude takes it way too far in the other direction and weakens his videos as a whole. (The "horse apples" thing comes to mind.)

I guess it might be less annoying if he didn't also write like his own interpretation is obviously the One True Secret Meaning as intended by the creator(s).

Like I said, love the dude 90% of the time, but that one habit drives me batty, and it seems like there's at least one example of it in every single video.

Yeah the big issue is that the competition was and is still worse at most everything except handling their stores, steam does a lot of stupid poo poo, but they've got your games, community and chat junk in the same place without it all being intrusive or too annoying, plus more and better sales than elsewhere barring things like being able to get ubisoft games for somewhat cheaper off uplay and that sorta thing.
