They did, they split up acrimoniously shortly after the 2012 Olympics. Then, being brothers, they made up and decided to make it work. They did a few festivals last year - the whole Bluedot performance is on YT - and gigs in London and Manchester last December. I was at the London gig in the front row, so have the dubious privilege of appearing twice in an Orbital music video.

If anyone wants a mint copy of the 3xLP set of the hall gigs, BTW, I have one that I don't need.

E: putting in vids for last year's releases.

I think it's safe to say "Leftfield was on point". There were only two of them and one quit before Alternative Light Source.

Decent album, that was. Much better than Rhythm and Stealth.

I've been wondering when they'd make their return! It's been like 3 years since their last album.

Although I guess they did release that EP in the summer of 2016 too, so it hasn't been that long, but it's felt like forever.

This track is absolutely fire. Got that acid jazz from the 90s mixed with 2018 house, and a Mali singer on the cut.

I used to love VNV Nation back in the day. Well, that album and a couple others at least. Are they still together/putting out new stuff? I rarely ever hear anyone talk about them nowadays. But like for example, I was playing through Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice like 2 months ago and Illusion played over the end credits and I was surprised by that choice but thought it ruled.

They're not really like most other stuff covered in this thread though :v:

That's some great news! Going to be seeing her around then, so I'm excited to hear the new material live.

Have you listened to any 1788-L stuff? I've only listened to a few things but I've been really digging it. Has a similar dark vibe to it.

I've heard Rezz drop a couple of their tracks in her sets, and I love that Sound Of Where'd U Go mashup they were a part of with Illenium and Said The Sky, but nothing beyond that.

Any specific tracks I should check out?

Sound of Where'd U Go and his remix of Virtual Self - Particle Arts are what drew me in.

He just put out a remix of Skrillex & Poo Bear - Would You Ever and while it's not bad, I'm not feeling it as much as those two.

So stoked for more Rezz. Album artwork is sick too.

Haven’t gotten to many shows recently but I’ve got tickets for Glitch Mob next week and then I’m driving up to Delaware for firefly and I think Odesza and San Holo are the two sets I’m most excited for. And then it’s a few months off but seeing Allison Wonderland in DC at echo stage in August. Glad to finally have some EDM shows coming up, it’s been a while since anyone I like has been through town.

I only went on Saturday for "Dreamtempo" night. I'm a huge bassnectar fan so I might be biased but it was dope. Production was on point, it sounded great, and he played a surprisingly heavy set for a "dreamtempo" night. 1st Bank Center was a pretty cool venue for an arena. Kinda bummed he'll never play Red Rocks again. We went there earlier in the day and it was gorgeous. Might have to try to catch something like Pretty Lights or STS9 there at some point.

...so it's supposed to sound like I need a new subwoofer? Like, it's not "cool" dubstep noises, it just sounds like my speakers are blown out and it hurts my ears.

e: okay this video is probably the best example I can give you of what I'm talking about (not an actual Rezz track but... the end of this video is what 95% of her drops sound like to me)

usually for dubstep to sound like the end there, you have to actively gently caress up your EQ settings, but, uh, i get the weird feeling Rezz was way ahead of me on the EQ-loving?

Her music isn't really dubstep though. Wiki lists it as "new beat", which was a crossover of EBM/acid/house from the late 80s.

If you listen to some stuff here, some of Rezz's stuff definitely sounds like this if you made it in 2018 with contemporary sounds:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWwSSCGyzR0

Her music def doesn't sound blown out like that to me. Like the sounds she creates are dirty, yeah, but it's not like it's poorly mixed and it's peaking like hell all the time or anything

I'm listening to Edge on my laptop right now and it doesn't sound like my laptop speakers are broken and my ears aren't hurting. It's just the style of music. Her poo poo's actually really clean and well-produced.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oIAQSUt9mo

I guess if you hosed with the settings on your listening setup enough, you could make it sound like that meme, but it's not like she produces it to sound like that.

Her music isn't for everyone, though. That's literally true of any artist.
