people aren't bitching that a step is "get dittos/ghosts" they're bitching that the devs were shortsighted enough not to include dittos or ghosts in the tables for their 3 months of every day is an event btw
Well ditto being a step is a bit bad too, since it's even more RNG dependent than a lot of things, but that research thing is also supposed to be a longer term goal, so it's okay if it takes a bit imo

Like at the point where putting some thought into the game they improved gyms, daily research/rewards vs the old login bonus system, I don't see why EX raids can't be changed for the better too.
Quick spitball: Instead of fixed location and day/time have them expire in a fixed amount of time, like 2 weeks or 30 days or whatever.

Players then can opt in to activate them, you get a push notification "EX RAID ATTEMPT IN YOUR AREA" or whatever, when someone tries to start one, when a certain number of players opt in at that spot it starts a real countdown. The target and difficulty/rewards scale up with more opt ins, so it encourages the big 20 person group or whatever current EXs are tuned towards, but allow smaller ones/less population dense or off hours folks to still try and get something.

It's weird that regionals don't get this much hate/anger
I'd guess it's because the game series always had some degree of arbitrary "You chose this color so don't get some pokemon, or some are more rare than the other game," and the regional visitor events have shown the devs are willing to bend that regional rules sometimes, but players haven't seen the same sort of latitude on stuff locked behind 5 star or EX raids. Hell if someone is in the boonies without active players it really is more realistic they'll personally travel to another continent than some glut of players shows up to do raids.

I bitch about ghosts and I'd still rather do research than raids. I live in a small town so there's never enough people to do a high level raid. I still don't have latias or ho ho or any of the big fancy ones and I've never even seen an ex pass

Same. I was told American Canyon was overwhelmed by Instinct and had to see it for myself, which was cool, but means I can't put anything in the gyms with them.

With bots down since March, all the community day results since then by Niantic said North America was predominantly Instinct so that's something. I'll always be outnumbered in my town though, but we're super stoked anytime we get a decent number of Instinct at a raid.

Most of the exraids lately have been during the week.

The system where popular raid time triggers the time for an exraid is really good except for the fact that it doesn't line up in calendar to the same weekday. So if you have bunch of people raiding sunday morning you might get an exraid for thursday morning.

It'd help a whole lot if exraids would be on the same weekday as the pass giving raid, just 1 or 2 weeks ahead.

Modus Pwnens

EX passes aren't triggered by one specific raid, so that wouldn't work.

The Zombie Guy

I think the best system would be to get a notification saying congrats, you qualified for an Ex pass, and then getting a list of a couple dates / times to choose from.
If the date and time you chose doesn't get enough other people registering for it, you could get a choice to try it anyway, or reschedule. Seems like giving people a choice would be the simplest way to make everyone happy.

Depending on how active the pokemon scene is around you, show up like 15 minutes early to chat with folks and decide if you want to split up into raid groups by team or whatever to maximize everyone's catch rates. If you're super die-hard get there extra-early, take the gym for your team, and prepare to golden berry it.

Otherwise, or if you're antisocial and don't care to actively coordinate, just show up a few minutes early and hop into the gym at the first opportunity to make sure you get a slot.

Don't show up late. Odds are good you'd be left with nobody to raid with, because everyone else got there on time and used their pass already.

You can beat Mewtwo with a small handful of people, assuming everyone's decent level with reasonable counters. And his base catch rate is high - about double a normal Legendary - so your odds of catching him are good with golden berries and great/excellent curves. (Don't get me wrong - he could still run on you anyway, because random numbers are like that - ask me about the 96% who ran on me - but your odds are solid compared to other 5* raids.)

---

Oh yeah - so yesterday I had an EX Raid. The gym was red, and there were 8 of us blues attacking it all at once. We had it down to a single Blissey who was getting near the berry limit, like four minutes before the raid started. And somehow the red team started filling the gym - a snorlax, then a dragonite, etc. - while we were still attacking it. I have no idea how that was possible, but eh, I caught him anyway (91%) so I'm largely over it.

I've been seeing a Wobbuffet spawn in a specific spot for the last several days. Does the game do that? Will there just be specific uncommon/rare spawn points outside of parks and nests? I've never noticed this behavior until now.

The message may say that you cannot place a defender because the gym is "under attack" but actually it has nothing to do with that. The only rule is that when a defender gets kicked out, that team cannot place new defenders for 15 minutes, or until the team is kicked out entirely. So if the other mons were kicked out more than 15 mins ago, red could place new mons, even if you were still attacking.

Yes, there are some "frequent spawn points" of rare mons, which rotate along with nests. It used to be more obvious when the game was new, when there was not so much going on yet, but I think they still exist. It could also be a tiny nest in a small grass field or whatever.

Yes, it's effectively a small single spawn nest. We have one in our yard and it changes with the nest change every 2 weeks. I think its Electabuzz now.

It was Torchic when gen3 launched which was pretty cool.

I agree with these suggestions, and at one point this recommendation had Lugia up there as a "Not Shadow Ball" counter as a tank. I usually have a lot of Houndoom to put in because my biome was rife with Houndour even before weather started (and now summer so sunny/clear weather is here) and the Halloween events had straight up wild Houndoom popping up for me a lot. If you have a lot of fast TMs, make sure your Houndoom has Bite instead of Fire Fang. A lot of people also like to use their stash of rare candy on Mewtwo so if you're one of those people, you might as well make the investment of using charge TMs to change your move to Shadow Ball.

Tyranitar still reigns supreme in utility so get ready for that Larvitar community day.
