I took a day's lesson in January on mig for car body repair. Honestly the hardest bit is the settings and remembering not to grab the metal you've just been welding... I bought my own welder a month or so back and have been happily welding sills and bodywork. I did a Best Offer on a CX Racing Intercooler for the MS6 and I put a note "You should accept this offer because it's a dead platform" and they did! $349 asking, accepted $250 and the 20% off brought it to $200 even. Our fourth apparently got wasted, too, and we got 3rd place. I was so mortified. I know it's just a game, but good God did I feel like such a dweeby loser. Still do, actually... We had a crazy dinner the other night where a non-english speaking rando pubbie squadmate and myself were separated from two other teams in a 10 foot circle by a waist high wall in SW Los Leones with no breaks in it to shoot through as the final circle hit - we had stood on our separate sides for about 3 minutes taking ineffectual potshots over the top of the wall when people jumped to peer etc until the final circle collapsed, and then just before it started chunking I boosted my last handful of painkillers and survived for one of the 20 dinners we pulled down last season. It's super easy to panic at the end and pull out the wrong gun/shoot your teammate/throw a bad grenade, so don't worry about it too much. The replay is extra amusing because I had no idea there was a member from a third team (there's two different purple banners there) hiding just on the edge of the final circle, he waited too long to make his move and then just opened the door and collapsed. https://clips.twitch.tv/BlatantModernOxJKanStyle Also, have you seen this site yet? some pretty cool match telemetry. https://pubg.sh/EtherFrenzy/pc-na/a38c3e8f-ed24-4e0a-a523-b3aeff76d5e7

I've been welding for a living for 6 years, went to school for 2 and got certifications. I do not make bank. I'm not a union welder though. So that might make a difference pay-wise. It's definitely a skill I like having since I can weld up roll cages for my teams lemons cars and personal race cars. I already want out of the industry though. Also, Tig welders don't have to be expensive. I have this AHP one and have been very impressed with it. The only complaint I have is the stock pedal kind of sucks but it works. http://a.co/e1mzRFT

I think the "make bank" guys are mistaking welders and Boilermakers. My buddy started at $45k after his apprenticeship and always has the opportunity for overtime. That's on par/better than most bachelor degrees, only the "schooling" is a fraction of the time and gives you a paycheck instead of debt

So the crappy little lot we bought the "new" Ion from... Been calling for a couple of weeks trying to find out what's up with the plates and title (got a 60 day temp tag, but ran a carfax recently, no history since it went to auction, and the dealer had 30 calendar days to title it). They kept saying the plates were in the mail. Someone finally told me when the owner would be in. "Oh, we didn't do an inspection before selling it, and the state won't let me title it because of that. You need to go get it inspected, then I can get your plates." No buddy.... YOU need to get it inspected. And you knew we were from out of town. I live in an inspection county, and the CEL popped on 2 days after buying it, so I can't get it inspected. State law requires any car dealer to get a state inspection performed before selling a vehicle, if the last inspection is over 90 days old, and it has to be done to the standards of the county it's being titled in. (now I know the CEL is on because of a flaky MAP sensor.. I already tried swapping over the one from the old Ion, which reduced how often it comes on, but it still comes on occasionally - new OEM one is $50, I'm just putting off buying a new one until next week). "uh.... can you bring it to me? I can get it inspected" No... I'm 5 hours away at the moment, it's getting titled 2 hours away from your lot, and the temp tags expire this weekend. Also, remember I'm in an emissions county and the CEL is on. "..... I'll find a way to get it handled" Checked the inspection history today. It shows an safety-only inspection yesterday (which is fine for the county the dealer is in, but not the county I live in), shows the wrong year model (but another inspection years ago also shows the wrong year - the inspection system TX uses requires the inspector to manually enter the year model), and hilariously wrong mileage. But he called and said he has the plates ready, asked if he wants them mailed or if we can pick them up. How much you want to bet he got it titled in his county instead of my new one? Or slipped someone at the title office a few bucks to overlook the fact that it didn't get smogged, only safetied? GF is picking the plates and tag up tomorrow (can't wait on them to be mailed, since the temp tag expires this weekend, and my apt complex will tow cars with expired tags within minutes), and she's spending the weekend with me. I'm on the fence about reporting both him and the inspector to the state, since it was a fraudulent inspection (and I'm just downright pissed that it took them two loving months to tell me why I hadn't received the plates). The car has been mechanically fine outside of needing brakes and a wheel bearing, but it's a bit of a basketcase otherwise. TBH this car would have been a hard pass had I seen it in person, but GF bought it without me there. I've got most of the major crap fixed, but it's going to need a fuel pump and a windshield re-seal at some point. I also need to vacuum the AC and weigh in the charge, since I haven't had any luck getting it to blow air much below 50F when the sun is out. I have a feeling whoever replaced the condenser didn't vacuum it properly. Darchangel posted:Oh, Jesus, yes, being a car guy and living in an apartment was terrible. My front coat closet was the tool and part closet. And a few coats. I had it pretty good for awhile at my current apartment, but the new ownership has cracked down quite a bit, to the point that they tow cars within a few hours if they're even parked on the line (we have a massive surplus of parking here, I've never lived in an apartment complex with so much parking - never seen it more than 1/2 full except in the center of the property). I can still get away with doing stuff after 6pm, but I don't like making noise after 8pm, just to be respectful. My neighbors in my own building are fine with me working on my car, though I try not to make any noise after dark (I'll leave that to the tweaker a few buildings down, who treats my street as his personal motorcycle drag strip every night around 2am), and a couple of neighbors even ask me for (bad) advice occasionally. I don't talk to anyone in other buildings though, and I have no loving clue what the new maintenance staff looks like (they don't wear uniforms, and I've yet to be able to get them out to fix a broken door or do pest control - for all I know, some of them probably live here). It’s interesting- south Australia has container deposit legislation, which basically means the makers of the drink pay a levy, and if you collect the container for recycling and return it to a recycling depot, you get 10c. As a result you see zero bottles on the ground in the city, cos the homeless harvest them before they hit the ground for an income and in country areas you barely see any on the road verge either. Unless they’re a piss bottle... Cross the border into NSW or Victoria however, and once you go bout 10km in, the roads are lined with bottles and cans
