Nah they're just taking a page from youtube. Anyone else find it a bit weird for youtube to have a #proudtocreate thing the other day right after a bunch of anti lgbt ads started showing up on channels who were lgbt? Especially after their "just remove the ad if you don't like it" response.

I prefer to use gog over Steam. Game doesn't require gog to run, which is great. But the way gog handles DLC is pretty backwards. Using the Galaxy client, stuff you add, especially for free, just doesn't like to show up. You have to use the web page to download the DLC, install it, then you'll be able to activate it in the Galaxy client.

But yeah, for something that started out as a library to get older games for newer OSs, its come a long way.

The game opens with a big red tree and it makes a huge point of focusing on red stuff, so yeah the handful of other red trees in the game kinda stick out. You'll probably not guess the full nature of the plot anyways.

On one hand, it's odd that Steam decided to let loose and say 'the doors are wide open' when the Active Shooter caught enough traction for Steam to get brought up in mainstream news. You'd think something like that would prompt them to buckle down and scrutinize what goes on their platform.

On the other hand, though, prior to that there was the debacle where visual novels like Kindred Spirits and Mutiny were going to be pulled when some religious group moved to have them removed. I have to imagine that also played some factor into the decision.

Something that I saw someone point out in another thread that Stardew Valley made it in because of the Greenlight system, and if not for that, it might have been passed over on the notion that it was something nobody would have wanted to paly.

I love GOG to death, but even they have their downsides.

That being said, if you're having trouble getting games to run, you can try contacting support or check the community forums for solutions. GOG also has a return policy as well (30-day of purchase, which is better than Steam's 2 weeks of purchase or 2 hours of gameplay nonsense).

Lol. I love that some of these clowns want to play morality police who want to go full regulation with gaming with themselves as gatekeepers. Yeah, i think valve should remove nazi poo poo and they probably will. but christ some of these articles are hyperbolic as gently caress. because i really want patrick klepick or some other white dude to be deciding what games are "fit" for people. They can't both claim neutrality on "controversial" topics AND have a vague rule that they can use to justify removing more or less anything they want.

And all it means is that the Nazis will have to put two whole minutes of effort into their trash to obfuscate it enough to pass the litmus test.

The problem is that all this poo poo is being put up for sale before it's taken down a week later when it shouldn't be put up at all, so scam artists can put up an asset flip and make a couple hundred dollars before people catch on, and sometimes people who make really offensive poo poo can score big and get on the news and are able to make maybe a couple thousand dollars before their game is pulled.

It's a system built to reward people who don't put any effort in, and it makes Valve money hand over foot so until that changes they aren't gonna touch their golden goose for fear that if they did, they'd lose out on money that they're already making elsewhere.

If it helps, the murder's identity is the spoiler that matters the least. Also, the game makes a habit of having really obvious clues all over, they're just really easy to miss because EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING ALL THE TIME. In the best possible way.

Not to mention, as I saw somebody point out, that if Steam is taking down anything that's illegal, then anything games like it would still be on the fast track to the trash can, as it would fall under hate speech laws in the US or elsewhere in the world where those laws are enacted. AIDS Simulator seems like it falls more under hate speech than it does trolling. Hell, I don't even know what 'trolling' technically constitutes as. I would have figured the game without executables was the 'trolling' stuff, or maybe games with fake screenshots, or named similarly to big budget releases (like NotGTAV, which looks to have been renamed NotTheNameWeWanted)

the thing is calling something "trolling" is just as vague as saying it's "offensive" or "bad". To put it another way what's the line between trolling and satire? Is this game trolling?

Is this one?

The fact that some games will be on steam and others won't will always be a thing, the question is there consistency and transparency for developers and the answer to both is still no.

Deadly Premonition isn't exactly subtle. When Super Great Friend did his LP of it, a lot of people figured out the killer really fast but it was still a trip to watch, and eventually play through because I wound up getting the game myself after one of the first major plot points and playing along. It's a game that's way more about the ride to get to the end than about the actual content I feel.
