The Best Shoegaze and Dream Pop of 2017 is a nice list of interesting releases throughout the last year.
A few I had heard about, but a lot of them were brand new to me.

Thanks for this... besides Ride and Slowdive I didn't really catch much in the genre this year. As well...I kind of completely forgot about the Ride, and haven't listened to Slowdive nearly enough.

Old Town Road to EGOT

The new Ride was kind of forgettable, unfortunately. Slowdive is easily in my top albums of the year. It never gets old for me no matter how many times I listen to it. Can't say I've even heard of a single other entry from that list, though :shobon:

JAMC's Damage and Joy is a major omission probably. It's definitely better than the Ride.

edit: oh lol, page 1 didn't load properly for me on my phone so I only saw the top 6. JAMC are still missing!

On page 1, I've really enjoyed previous Airiel (check out The Battle of Sealand from ten years ago), but I'm queuing up all of these. And to think at the beginning of last week I was down to just 20 hours on my Spotify queue. drat end-of-year lists!!

Woah, new Airiel. I've had a couple of their Winks & Kisses EPs (which, by the way, are four in number and combine to form an LP's worth of material as well as a picture if the physical copies are arranged in a square) for a long time but bought the rest of their work earlier this year. Mostly from google play because only Sealand was on bandcamp at the time, but apparently now their full discography is there.

If it wasn't obvious, I love this band. I don't know when I'll next buy more music but their new album is definitely on my wishlist.

e: oh my god, this album is loving amazing. like, it's a perfect mix of everything I like about this sub-genre, plus a prominent bass

I'm still sad that Lush got together, did one EP, and vanished again. They were always my favorite shoegaze band.

given the way the tour ended (Phil abruptly leaving the band before the last show) I assume there was some kind of drama behind the scenes.

Awesome. Wish I'd have caught the tour. Hell, the last time I saw them live was when I was in high school. Miki was like, my big crush when I was 15 or so.

And yeah, Phil just up and left so there had to be something wrong. Maybe he wasn't really into the whole idea at all. I don't know.

:same:

Lush are one of my favorite bands, and I was really crushed when they re-dis-banded before I had a chance to see them live.

Judging by various interviews the members had given over the years, none of them ever seemed to be really excited about the idea of reforming. Obviously, the band broke up in a tragic way, and between that and nearly 20 years of them having lives and families mostly outside the music industry, it's not that surprising that things didn't work out when they tried to get back together.

At least we got a pretty good EP out of the attempt. I never thought I'd get to hear a new Lush song again.

Also, Panda Riot is pretty awesome. Look up the song "night animation" on Spotify.

New haul from Bandcamp:

Palehorse/Palerider - Burial Songs
Slowdive ST
Beach House - Bloom
Airiel - Molten Young Lovers
LACING - Bummer
Nothing - Tired of Tomorrow
Jesu - EIGCTTLFWIC
True Widow - AVVOLGERE

..among stuff from other genres. I've already listened to all of these because Bandcamp is cool like that, and it is an absurdedly good batch of music.

Topographies: Pink Thoughts (single)

Also something more like regular noise rock/wall-of-sound with clear vocals, I stumbled upon this local Danish band the other day and I'm going to see them live next week.
Reminds me a bit of Amusement Parks on Fire.

Alcabean: Head Down

I love KEXP so much.

And I discovered a couple of bands I didn't know about from this morning's show -- including Soft Science, which seems to be the second coming of Lush (which were themselves the second coming of Lush until they imploded a few months into their reunion).

New Beach House is streaming (which means it leaked too). It's good.

aaaand I got a copy of it 2 weeks early. My local record store had a listening party last night for the new album, and raffled off a copy which I won.

It's a great album. Much more cohesive than Depression Cherry/Thank Your Lucky Stars.

The intro stated they were excluding pure shoegaze, but Loveless is on there? Anyway, I have a number of these already, and added a few more to my wishlist.

Lately I find myself often wondering what my music library would sound like on a proper vinyl setup.

I like both of them. He's always had a sweet tooth for that Phil Spector huge production pop confection sound, and this is definitely sugary sweet. I'm not expecting him to regress into the sound of those first three huge LPs but I bet some of those new tracks turn up the volume and let loose a bit. Still, I don't think he's writing "cop shoot cop" for 2018.

I'm excited because new album hopefully means tour. Say what you want about the records, but that dude can put on a stellar live show.
