I was making a joke but it's pretty well known that like 99% of black metal guys from Ukraine are that way inclined, even if they don't say so.

Ah, yeah I thought it might be a joke since I don't pay much attention to the actual going ons of a "scene" or whatever I just like some music but don't want to listen to NS music.

Sounds good.. well I was looking it up (after accidentally listening to some sludge album named WAYFARER on Stoned Meadow of Doom with some Layne Stanley-sounding motherfucker moaning) and it said they're playing here in Wichita next week on one page, but they're actually not. I was already planning it up in my head to go to a show for the first time in 8 years, boo fuckin' hoo. Never even been to a black metal show.

But I'm way interested in BM that uses american/cowboys/american indian themes, thanks for the tip.

For sure but panopticon is more folk/bluegrass inspired so I suppose you could say more authentic where as Wayfarer has said they're inspired by Morricone so it's a bit more theatrical.

There's this little EP from a band called Gravetrails that's also western (movie) influenced: https://orphansounds.bandcamp.com/track/serpentine-soil

Plus a whole hunk of bands relating to indigenous americans on this label: https://crepusculonegro.bandcamp.com/

I dig their themes, but a lot of it's more of the rawer BM while I prefer the overproduced atmospheric pussy poo poo.

The Shataan album from 2016 had some Morricone sounding stuff on it as well as flutes, although i thought it didn't work that well most of the time.

Why don't you perform zazen, facing a wall?
Shataan’s vocals are bizarre and also crap, the flute stuff is least of their problems imo

Oh man, the whole album is fuckin dope. I like Funeral Mist Mortuus more than Marduk Mortuus.

Second listen edit: Yea, this is the good poo poo. Vocals are on point. Pallor Mortis and Cockatrice are the stand outs for me. Pallor is pretty much classic Funal Mist with the weird sample and the Burzum-y synth in Cockatrice is A++

Get ye to Salvation.

This new one is pretty cool, sort of accessible by Funeral Mist standards, with lots of immediate detail and comfortable production/mixing. I like the variety in the arrangements.

As usual his vocals are out of this world.

e: unrelated and from 2 months ago but if you like 2nd wave eastern European black metal with lots of upbeat guitar leads, this Endarken is very good.

I tried out Salvation but the production is too rough mixed in with the new album right now. I’ll definitely check it out once I wear this one out for now.

Seriously loving this band. I’m in the middle of going back through all my favorite black metal right now and they fit right in. Sucks I never got into them back in the day. The vocals remind me of Vintyr from Basilisk for some reason.

Triumphator was his band before FM and their Wings of Antichrist album was reissued not too long ago.

It is also very good and very intense, if more "Swedish black metal" sounding and of its time.

In regard to the records themselves - at the end of the day, WHO CARES who pressed it? I sure don't.

After making a giant post where he obviously cares.

I also enjoyed the post where his girlfriend said Blake was just an employee who boxes stuff, and someone countered with a screen shot of their Leviathan Test Press with a "certificate of authenticity" (lol) where its signed by Blake with the title of Owner of Ascension Monument.

Surf Rock and Black Metal can be very similar but Spaghetti Western themes were also close to surf rock. They used less reverb and would focus on dark, minor key riffs that were sometimes copied from surf hits at the time using a more ponderous rhythm. Then they'd add in a major version of the riff for the hero of the film which kinda ruins the similarity to BM but they always start with the tense minor riff, often two versions in a minor key then a third in major. Punctuate them with gunshots/whipcrack SFX and keep it slower than surf.
