You want the RGH-3A, TOP DOG, and WHM-6D. The Roughneck has the best survivability quirks, TD's got better mobility, and the Warhammer has a bit more tonnage and some very tight mount groupings.

The RGH-3A is in the OP and they all run roughly the same build so you can use that as a template.

Played a bunch of games with the Raven 3L last night, and somehow I’m decent with lights now. I feel waaaay outgunned fighting other lights though - I’m using 2x medium lasers and a large pulse laser + ECM.

Is there a better build or different light I should switch to? I have the teddy-bear Jenner and one of the early clan scouts (Mist Lynx maybe? I just remember it sucked).

Raven and jenner arent that great.

Mist lynx can be servicable if you make a machinegun build with it.

Wolfhounds are good, also consider fast mediums like the assassin.

Arctic Cheetah, it's like playing lights with training wheels.

You don't go quite as fast, which sucks but, face it, those extra 20+ km/h only really come in handy out in the open or once you are very experienced in a particular mech.

You make up for a slight speed reduction by having lots of HP, good jumping, and pretty good weaponry.

I know, IS lights are attractive because they are 'cheap', and the cheetah is 'expensive' in comparison. But when you factor in a new engine, and all the upgrades you still need, the cheetah is great value. I have fun with all my light mechs, but the cheetah is the most reliable and versatile.

ACH-PRIME for pinching butts

So you can build at least 3 mechs for under 9mil, more if you unleash your creativity.

Can confirm this build can wreck poo poo, especially if you find yourself a nice high peak. I've used it to dissect helpless assaults at max range and those super high shoulder mounts really let you milk the hill humping lifestyle.

Yeah, there doesn't seem to be a way around that. I just put the top 2 lasers into one group and the bottom 2 into another.

You don't really want to alpha and you get some ghost heat, however, the top 2 are great for peeking over hills. This is the build I am running which is pretty similar to the one I linked:

Three LLs and nothing else seems a little undergunned for a 65-tonner, even with good quirks and heat management? Or maybe the cooldown reduction is substantial enough to make up for the low on-paper DPS.

Is a single Hellspawn variant really the only mech in the game quirked specifically for MRMs?

yeah they are obnoxious, getting a faceful of non-stop explosions sucks rear end. inflicting that on other people is basically the best part of using them and i wish RACs were half as good at killing poo poo as they were at being fun to use

MRMs (and ATMs) seem to be conspicuously absent from stock loadouts across the board, it's weird that they're seemingly such an afterthought

Skippy McPants

MRMs are a fairly new weapon system. You see something similar with Heavy Lasers and RACs where only a couple of the newer mechs released after the Civil War update have quirks related to them.

If you're looking for an MRM mech, the IV-FOUR is top tier.

Going all in on Murms will produce consistently high damage numbers, regardless of circumstance, but you will struggle to beat fresh enemies at all but the closest ranges due to how inefficient the damage is spread. It's like direct-fire lurms, practically. You will notice the difference if nobody else on the team can aim for poo poo. But hey, since it's a hero mech, at least the c-bills are good.

Do targeting computers or active probes have any effect on the lock on speed of missiles? Kind of wondering if I should scrap 'em on my MDD-R in favor of literally anything else since you can't really target specific parts with ATMs anyway (though it's nice to pick on mechs with damaged/open CTs).

aniviron
Sep 11, 2014

Can't remember about the TCs, but the active probes absolutely help. They also cut through enemy ECM at close range, meaning that you're not totally hosed if someone with ECM gets within 270m of you, which is pretty important for an ATM mech.

I tried playing this again and had a few runs with a Stalker 3-F loaded with 4 large pulse lasers and the rest pretty much armour and double heat sinks.

Apparently it works? I got 5 kills one match at least, just keep poking and keep drilling people's center torsos with the arm mounted wub wub beams. It is almost impossible to overheat as well which is nice.

aniviron
Sep 11, 2014

If you also still have a STK-4N, load it up with 6 standard LLs, it's the same thing but better. LPLs are not really worth the tonnage anymore.

There was a shadowhawk that could do a triple stack of them in one torso. It had good laser quirks too, but i'm not sure that's current any more.

There's also a few crabs made especially for this.

if the reaver hero comes up on sale, its definitely one of those good ones.

Black Knight and Warhammer also are okay. Black knight got a bit of a nerf, and is a touch knuckle-draggey, but its still good. Warhammer's nice all around.

Thanks! Unfortunately I think the BLK's torso mounts are almost arm-level, which is a bit of a bummer. Additionally it (like the Grasshopper) suffers from being tall and conspicuous in a fight :(

I've got a Warhammer 6R and I think it's become my favourite IS mech for its versatility. Bunch of lasers? Sure. Want dual autocannons? Alright. Missiles? Here's a high mount.

I also finally found an assault mech I like! Banshee 3S with 6xML (or ERML if you're a coward), LB-10X and MRM40

When skilling out the 4G you don't need to put any skills in the mobility tree at all for this mech. Just focus on the structure skills, weapon cooldown/heatgen/duration and I also put some points in operations for even more heat.

If you have to spend money on this dumb robot game, the Tournament Supporter Pack is easily the best value you get for spending your hard earned money on dumb online robot stuff. For $10 you get a 10% boost to your CBill earnings until the end of the year, a bunch of extra stuff in every event like bonus loot bags or CBills, and a bunch of other poo poo no one cares about.

I'm a big dummy though. I bought one a couple weeks ago, forgot I bought it, and bought another one last night. That means I have an extra pack to give away. Hooray!

If you want in on this, draw me a sweetass robot in MSPaint and post it in this here thread. Later tonight I'll pick my favorite drawing, then randomly give my Tournament Supporter Pack code to someone else that also posted a MSPaint Mechwarrior drawing in this thread.

Edit:
I'll do this tomorrow night, not tonight. That's Tuesday, June 26.
