Wimbledon 2018 has started so here's a minimum :effort: OP just so we have something.

Men's draw:

Women's draw:

-----------

Federer and Kvitova are generally seen as the favorites. Fed and Nadal both have manageable draws, although they'll potentially have to get through Cilic and Djokovic respectively, who just contested the Queen's Club final last week, in the semis for us to get a 10-year-anniversary repeat of their 2008 match.

On the women's side it will be interesting to see how Serena does. I'm also hoping that Osaka, Barty and Sloane go deep, but ultimately that Petra does indeed win. Not comfortable calling her the favorite, though, as she's too unreliable for that and her draw isn't great to be honest. Also apparently Zvonareva is back?

Men's final is the same day as the world cup final.

Donna did it. Beat Stephens in two.

RIP Nike. The goat signs deal with Uniqlo

quote:

Prior to inking the new deal, Federer had been with Nike for nearly 25 years. Nike was apparently offered a chance to match the Uniqlo offer but declined

Yeah that was a disappointingly quick exit for Sloane. Oh well.

Coric is out so Fed's route to the semis looks even easier now. Although to be honest even though Coric beat him in the Halle final it was always tough to imagine a scenario where he repeats that at Wimbledon. The warm-up tournaments are often misleading when it comes to the top players' form.

Wawrinka is being taken to the cleaners by Dimitrov.

It was to be expected. Murray beat Wawrinka fairly easily last week and thought he wasn't ready so I have no idea what Stan was thinking playing.

e: Wawrinka is now winning of course as Dimitrov is chucking in some shocking errors.

Yeah all the clay tournaments should've moved backward a week instead.

Elina out early again, just like in FO. What happened there?

I was watching the insane BEL/JPN match on TV and Siniakova on iPad. Siniakova got past crazy Coco in three sets :hfive:

Kvitova is a double break down in the third. I'm at least a little glad my stream is showing Ferrer v Khachanov instead so I don't have to see her crash out. :( Sasnovich was always a bad draw for round one.

I just turned the stream on after watching Sweden advance to the quarters (wooohooo). Down 0-4 now, all my happiness gone 😭

Bageled, jesus christ. Probably overplayed in the lead-up, she did retire last week at Eastbourne or wherever. What a bummer.

Thiem also just retired.

Bencic up a break vs Garcia. Need a feel good win from Belinda to lessen the blow of Petra going out.

That one's a win-win as far as I'm concerned, although I'm not sure Garcia can do much damage on grass.

Man, that Sharapova game. A wet fart of a final point but otherwise that was great.

A lot more fun than the bloody england game.

I don't know what I'll do in these early Slam rounds when Roger retires and I can't see him demolish random journeymen

Cilic just lost to Pella so Federer should really cruise to the final now. Raonic or Querrey are probably the biggest obstacles in his half.

Sodium Chloride

Cilic was two sets up, cruising, Pella got a lucky break in the third with the damp weather, match was suspended...

...Pella had a transformation overnight and Cilic got dumped out.

Wimbledon posted the supposed GOAT match, the 2008 final, on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHsg2M25PzY

It's six hours long but I might watch it some time, on a weekend or whatever. It was a year before I started watching tennis so I've never seen it.

Pliskova is gone as well, that's the entire top 10, what the hell. Maybe its time for yet another Serena slam?

The men's is going much more smoothly. Early in the day but Federer is doing his thing just fine. Think he only lost 5 points in the entire set lmao.

Camila Giorgi in a slam quarterfinal is kind of wild. I imagine she's going to absolutely implode versus Serena but you never know with her.

I'm rooting for Kiki Bertens, Wimbledon champion, at the end of all this.
