Pretty sure all of Schwarber's defensive value this season is tied up in his high assist count, which is entirely a product of the scouting report on his defense being not very flattering and guys underestimating his actually pretty strong arm. That he has as many DRS as assists (8) lays credence to this. Like don't get me wrong, he's certainly improved his defense this year, but that's insofar as he's gone from "complete loving disaster" to "stereotypical corner OF power bat who can play passable to average defense".

With how bad the Marlins and Rays are at putting people in the seats, I am more and more a believer that an MLB team in Buffalo would have been an okay idea. The Sabres sell nearly 100% of the tickets they put out every year, and there's absolutely no way it'd be a worse draw than what Miami is doing.

Statcast's defensive numbers on Schwarber tell a totally different picture. I think UZR likes him because of good positioning and he catches everything he gets to.
