it is patently absurd to think Kyle Schwarber has produced as much value on defense as Kevin Pillar, in 10 fewer games no less

Another spring commute
Pretty sure all of Schwarber's defensive value this season is tied up in his high assist count, which is entirely a product of the scouting report on his defense being not very flattering and guys underestimating his actually pretty strong arm. That he has as many DRS as assists (8) lays credence to this.

Like don't get me wrong, he's certainly improved his defense this year, but that's insofar as he's gone from "complete loving disaster" to "stereotypical corner OF power bat who can play passable to average defense".

Same thing is happening with Corey Dickerson, people are testing him since he has a reputation for a weak arm so he’s mowing guys down

I'm sure it won't happen but a dispersal draft would fascinate me. The Marlins are butt but they have a few talented guys here and there and their prospect pool is probably decent.
They have a 6 year old stadium that the county is paying for, they are not going anywhere. If they didn't have that, then yeah, they would probably get contracted

But I sure as hell am not giving Jeets any money until he and the ownership group actually decide to pretend they are trying to win.

With how bad the Marlins and Rays are at putting people in the seats, I am more and more a believer that an MLB team in Buffalo would have been an okay idea. The Sabres sell nearly 100% of the tickets they put out every year, and there's absolutely no way it'd be a worse draw than what Miami is doing.

I don't even know why there would be a scouting report that a career catcher would have an arm too weak for LF.

Statcast's defensive numbers on Schwarber tell a totally different picture. I think UZR likes him because of good positioning and he catches everything he gets to.

He's only 1 for 16 on catches in the 3-5* range on Statcast but he's perfect on the 1 and 2 star catches.
