I know a lot of Star Trek fans were livid about that but it was so well set up and executed, I wasn’t even mad. I laughed heartily. Well played Abrams, well played.

Watched it for the first time, and it really lives up to the hype.

I'm sure if they do well they can expand to full-cast adaptations or original material. This does sound like it's a weird roundabout deal, though. These are translations of German-only tie-in novels, probably so as not to step on any toes with the audiobooks that the regular English-language Trek EU books get.

Probably the same kind of deal they have with The Avengers. Can't do any new material, but can do adaptations of existing material.

I've been, very slowly, going though the old show on BritBox. Yesterday, I got to the start of the War Games, and I was kinda dreading it because it's 10 episodes long and many of these 2nd Doctor serials felt so stretched, but I ended up watching it all over these two days. So much fun.

There may also be a hesitance to do anything featuring the major characters from the shows because it'd be very difficult to get the actual cast. (I suspect this is what killed the Highlander and Stargate deals with them, too expensive to get the actors compared to how much of the finished product was selling.)

I watched the whole thing out of the corner of my eye (because that's about the level of attention required), and no they're playing it like they're going to do multiple episodes.

Which, given the production schedule for episode one, means they'll have to regenerate the mid-regeneration doctor before they're through.

Also wow the storyline is so snarled I can't even tell what it's supposed to be about.
