Oh sorry, I meant the F variant with the Merlin. The N is the "light" Warhawk and it isn't in the game yet.

I unlocked the Lorraine 40t! I love the gun, though the auto loader takes some getting used to. 90% of the matches so far have been up tiers to 7.7 though. The Lorraine really suffers at that tier, at least when I drive it.

You should realistically be aiming at specific components at any range so there aren’t many situations this is true. About the only time is across the map 3km luck shots. There are like 1-3 guns in the game that have any meaningful shell deviation (one being the 105mm L7 of all things :suicide:) and with everything else you can place shots pretty much exactly where you want so long as you have a good feel for shell drop over distance.

That's what's been happening to me. In 4.7 I would be uptiered on the German team and rarely downtiered on the allies. I took the 5.7 ARL out for a spin and got uptiered. And now in my 6.7 I'm getting uptiered. It's frustrating!

The M22 approach

So the grind is still not bad in this game (at least relatively). I was able to get the M36 in about a dozen battles and I already almost have the M41. One thing I especially like is that MM tries to throw similar teams together, so I often end up with a squad of other M18s and we go on big flanking adventures around the map.

Solumin
Jan 11, 2013
The MM only cares about nation restrictions, not team composition. (Except in air RB.) You're seeing teams full of M36/M18 because those tanks are very, very popular.

The grind is going to start getting worse. Even with premium, a tier 6 tank can take 200 matches to unlock and infinitely more to spade. But that's not bad, as long as you enjoy the journey to unlock the next tank.

Congratulations on not getting fit in 2011!
I don't mind the grind. The gameplay is fun enough to where I try to focus on doing well during the fight instead of thinking of how many thousands of points of research I need to get my next tank.

Question: I prefer arcade battles to real but there seem to be lots of bots in these matches. Is it because of low player base (there's 48,000 people on average playing according to the counter so that can't be it...can it?) or because of some weird matchmaking where I'm placed with coms to ease me into PvP? I only have 2 tanks above 2.0 BR I believe. Am I stuck in the lowbie circle until I level or have people abandoned AB tanks, which I like better than WoT so please don't die on me :smith: .

Solumin

As far as I know, arcade always has more players than realistic. Or at least the queues are faster.
You're stuck with bots until you unlock your first Rank 2 tank, I believe. Not BR 2.0, but rank 2. You might need to unlock two of them? Not sure

And yeah the grind isn't bad as long as you're having fun. I'm just not good enough to have fun at the higher tiers.

Plan Z
May 6, 2012

Coming from WoT where it took like 100 premium wins just to get a decent gun on the tank, this game is a much better grind by miles.

I can get a full match in AB or RB in just a few seconds, but I also have all server regions turned on. I'd kind of prefer to get bots once in a while though.

Don't worry, the game is plenty healthy and even at higher ranks queue times for arcade tanks are always low.

no. just pick a vehicle you like and play it. even most bad vehicles are generally viable enough to make some sort of profit. it's one of the major strengths of this game. the end-game meta is putting little :s:'s on every vehicle by maxing out their unlocks

it isn't unusual to see expert players that have hundreds of hours in the game playing reserve tier because its fun

it also ins't unusual to see poo poo rear end bad players with 1:50 K:Ds at higher ranks

For planes, experting crews is entirely optional and represents 30% of the bonus you can get from crews. It's most notably helpful for reducing g-lock in jets and such.

Experting tanks is a significantly more noticeable improvement (ie that 1s faster reload might save you) but still largely optional.

Generally late tier 3/t4 tends to be where grind curve really starts to ramp up. And late t4 and beyond will some times see bad players start being unable to afford the silver cost without premium.

That being said by no means do you need premium to get to or to profit from top tiers.

Solumin
Jan 11, 2013
Experting a tank of worth it if you think you'll be using it for a long time, or even if you just like it a bunch. One you gave an expert crew, you can start working towards getting a free ace crew, too.

One of the important things about this game is you don't have to play top tier vehicles if you don't want to. It's not like an MMO where low tier stuff is "stale" and no one plays it!

My favorite BR is 4.7, but that might be because my favorite nations are at their strongest in that meta. Britain gets the 17 lbder, and France has the excellent FL 10 and SA 50.

Personally I'd say the best the game has to offer in both planes and tanks can be found between BR3.0 and 7.0 - it covers all the iconic stuff and more, and the game is at its best balance. Every nation has several highpoints in that range and no one stands out as straight up terrible. The vehicles are affordable, upgrades come quickly and research doesn't take all that long.

All the skills and tricks you learn playing the game are relevant and you don't need to learn how to play a whole different way like you do for all the stuff from about 1950 onwards. (or after getting out of the weird creations from before '36ish where people start getting competent

I've had the most fun in the highest tiers with tanks. Everyone is dangerous, it's a much more mobile/aggressive game, AAA is useful, and you get situationally useful tools like ATGMs and smoke grenades.

But it takes forever to grind the vehicles.

Solumin

5.7 does not exist for ground vehicles, you cannot convince me otherwise, and if it did exist I would firmly tell you it's the worst tier and should not be played. Everything jumps from 4.7 to 6.3, no tanks exist in between those two.

Tigers? No such thing.

It's only accurate at the exact distance your guns are sighted at so while I find it helpful to tell what vector an enemy plane is at, having a feel for your guns muzzle velocity is a lot more important

To practice I recommend teamkilling the guy in a p-51 or bf 110 slowly orbiting the enemy spawn point at 8km
