It's hosed up that you can't have 4k cube maps in this game.

Now I want to play a Rogue Servitor Empire who buys all their new friends off the market.

Imagine spending months huddled inside the belly of a slave ship, choking on barely reprocessed air while all around you is misery and despair. You hear rumors of what lies in store; a race of machines. What use would they have for organics? Will you be worked to death? Vivesected? Converted into raw energy?

The hold bays crack open. Blinding light pierces your eyes even as you take in a breath of fresh air. You imagine such bliss will be temporary as your eyes adjust to the light and see your new masters for the first time...

Specifically, looks like you're going to need specific resources to build particular components, which is a massive but excellent change. You'll need to build your military around the resources available to you, rather than the best cookie cutter builds.

Hmm. Perhaps they might be splitting minerals into raw and refined too, looking at that icon.

I want these Rogue Servitors to accidentally create a massive market for slaves. They'll always buy the slaves at any price, so the price is driven through the roof, leading to massive galactic wars as everyone tries to enslave each other, as the Rogue Servitors desperately try to build enough habitat to house the liberated slaves.

Eventually it's in the beligerents' interests to send building materials to the Rogue Servitors, lest their habitats fill up and the price of slaves crashes.

You could end up with some very silly very good stories from a system like this.

Okay, now I'm a little bit worried. I've never been that enthralled by fleet stuff, and having to source multiple materials to make a basic almost-naked corvette is not something that immediately sounds engaging.

Having to balance your mines against your refining capacity - I can already hear the bitching now.

As fun as forcing you to develop your industrial base would be, adding an extra step to production doesn't sound like something they'd do. If anything I'd guess that they're adding different types of minerals/rare resources. Maybe something like Endless Space where certain modules require different strategic resources?

They also cut out the part of the resource bar where all your planet, starbase and fleet capacity are listed. The spot where strategic resources are summarized now looks like it has a shining ring icon. Maybe they are splitting luxuries from strategic resources as well?

Psst, a super-early screenshot with values altered to be used as a teaser will not give you an accurate idea of what those values will look like on release. Of course we're not going to make a basic starting ship require you to have resources you can't produce in your home system.
