If you're new or looking for Pokedex entries, check silphroad.com s atlas. Every two weeks or so, "nests" of Pokemon will rotate through parks. Some have lots, some have one an hour, but over time you can figure out how to hunt down things you want. Not everything nests.

I would recommend hitting nests of (besides things for Pokedex) : machop, Geodude and abra. Maybe gastly. These tend to be your best bets for using in raids.

Also friend everyone you can on the spreadsheet and get everyone a gift . You'll get 3k xp for each person you do this with, another 10k after a week of opening/sending gifts. You want your level to hit mid 20s pretty quick and this will help

A good strategy for legendaries (or really any pokemon) is to wait for it to attack. As it begins its attack motion, start throwing a curve ball. If you time it right, it’ll land right as the attack motion completes and before it has a chance to move or do another attack.

Yeah, just shoving it in your pocket is fine. You're fine as long as it's still within range of your phone.

Yay besties! :hfive: I'm headed on a mini road trip this weekend, so I'll have exotic gifts from places like...uh...La Grande, Oregon. Okay, so it's not Georgian monuments, but I'll see what I can do. (I will, however, have exciting things to send next time I go to Ukraine!)

The game will still track distance while the Go+/Go-tcha is connected, even if your phone is locked.

Not certain about the Go but the Gotcha counts it all as long as it’s connected and the app is running in the background. I believe the Go is the same.

Played this a bit when it came out, trying it again now and there's a ton of QoL improvements (and also a shitload of pokemon I've never seen before) but man, now that I've hit level 20 it feels like every single encounter takes like 5 regular balls to catch, and I have no idea how the hell I'm supposed to stay stocked up. The only halfway decent place near me has 5 pokestops and 3 gyms all together, but even passing through there a few times only nets me like 15 balls.

I get it for the rarer / tougher ones, but why the hell do all the lovely fodder pokemon need to break out constantly?

aniviron
Sep 11, 2014

There's a bunch of math that goes into it but effectively throw curveballs always and use raspberries. Throwing a curveball gives you a 1.7x multiplier to catch, a berry is 1.5, and hitting the ring is between 1-2x depending on how big it is when you hit it. Going from a regular to great ball is 1.5 and ultras are 2.0; so consistently hitting nice or great curveballs will increase your odds of capture by a lot more than just throwing straight ultra balls, and is a lot more cost-effective too.

Two differences other than form factor: a gotcha technically comes premodded, and autocatches, a vanilla go+ requires clicking the button to catch/interact. The rechargable battery vs watch battery doesn't get quite as much life from what I've heard/obviously can't be replaced, but I've been able to recharge it maybe once or twice a week with casual play.

Are you using curveballs? Or feeding berries to the bigger/hard to catch things? Remember a curved 'great throw' with a regular ball has a higher catch chance than a great ball toss with a berry.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot! I saw one of the videos for the "L throw" technique on curve balls but my luck with it has been pretty drat spotty. I dunno if it's a connection issue or because I have a screen protector or what, but half the time it just goes flying or lands in front of them or something.

I’m sure this is something you Go veterans have already come to terms with but:

For a game made by a company whose whole deal is location aware networked apps, this softhware is incredibly janky. It sometimes struggles to stay connected which, ok, fine this is a normal thing that phones deal with, but the game just hangs while waiting to hear from the network. So if you tap on a costume option in a low connection environment, it starts to load the asset but if it can’t pull it down, the game just sits on a screen with no buttons or way to cancel out until it finished loading the model.

And it seems like similar things happen when I’m walking around with spinning stops and a few other things.

Who makes a mobile game that becomes unresponsive when the network gets weak?
