Could someone recommend me a couple grime records? I remember checking out some artists like 5 or so years ago, but the only one that's still in my player is Ghetts. Although I appreciate his earlier releases, "the calm before the storm" mixtape is close to perfect balance of bars and danciness to me, so I'd appreciate records with similar vibes.

I've been really into Erik Friedlander's compositions for the film Thoroughbreds, and would love any artists, albums or tracks that are similar. "Finding Mom" "Cycle Treachery" "Thoroughbred" "Taking Tim Down" "Win Win" I don't know what this would be called. Acid Percussion? Avant-garde percussion?

Another weird one that's a bit tough to describe. The legend of the mermaid is that they'd sing an alluring song to tempt sailors to abandon ship to come to them (and drown in the process). Looking for that song. Hypnotic, alluring, sexy, a dark undertone. Unfortunately I don't know tooooo much about that particular sound and I pretty much chalk it up as an Ed Banger Records thing. I was considering other recommendations, but they were not nearly as "hard" or whatever. However, if you feel like going deeper into that rabbit hole of choppy electronic that is relatively very soft, but still heavily "produced," I personally would look at Japan in the late 90's/early 2000's. Japan has a lot to offer with that. Some prominent examples of that sound here, keeping in mind that I know that these songs aren't nearly as heavy as the last post, but hey maybe you want something related but relatively light: Takako Minekawa - Plash https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57LboHngkn4 Takako Minekawa is mostly recognized for being the voice of the "PUREISUTEISHON" sort of robot voiceover for the old Playstation commercials. m-flo (specifically producer Taku Takahashi) featuring Chops and Bahamadia - Expo Expo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBtpQjy7iPo Taku Takahashi is pretty drat prolific and catches onto whatever the style of the time is while using choppy techniques quite a bit. Expo Expo is from 2001, and m-flo is still going today despite losing their vocalist for multiple albums. Rather than sitting idle, they just subbed in collab vocalists for 3 entire albums of collaborations, with each song suiting the style of whoever they were working with on that song. He often performs as a solo DJ for raves or whatever. His 2002 remix of Utada Hikaru's "Distance" is the earliest example I personally know of for chopping up vocals to make new melodies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAdKepqYzzQ Cymbals - Higher Than The Sun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LExi3fMODyU This is gonna be the biggest departure, I think, but I like it. This is off the album "sine" which I assume is a reference to being so much more synth-based than their other albums. Cymbals broke up in 2003, and while the 3 of them went on to success in their own ways, the sound mainly lived on through Toki Asako, the lead singer, who still makes "light and happy" kinds of music with a bouncy electronic feel. Another DJ to look into maybe would be Towa Tei, who you'd know as the DJ for Deee-lite, known for Groove Is In The Heart, and who kept working and collaborating with the likes of Kylie Minogue and Bebil Gilberto.
