So is there any way to know if a raid is happening/about to happen besides just happening to walk by the gym at the right time?

Unfortunately the weather looks like it's gonna be miserable. I snagged a 100% Registeel today, but unfortunately she missed on both raids we did. Usually I'm the one that can't catch the drat things, so it felt kinda good (my first legendary raid was the last day of Kyogre and I completely whiffed on catching him).

There used to be maps that told you where gyms were, where raids were happening, etc. Niantic shut em down. Uh, if you're out between 11 am and 2 pm Pacific time tomorrow, all of them. All at once.

Boo, that sucks for those of us who don't live within easy walking distance of a gym but want to have even a slim chance of getting some rare dudes. And if tomorrow is the Zapdos thing I'll pass, already have a couple from the research tasks. Good to know not to bother trying for any regular raids around that time though

If you want to raid you absolutely need to make sure you communicate with local groups. Otherwise you can stand there solo for 3 hours unable to do it

we got a huge group who will be doing zapdos raids for the entire event. during the articuno event, we took 16 articunos down, earning me well over a million experience. i also got zero shinies out of those sixteen and between that, missing mewtwo during the only ex raid i've gotten an invite to after six months of trying, missing out on regice after going 0-2 on attempts and also currently being 0-2 on registeel, i fully expect to not get a shiny tomorrow either.

During Articuno, a lot of my local chatroom raiders actually carpooled and drove around from spot to spot, but still about two dozen of us met up at a common meeting place and just started moving like a giant herd through downtown. Other players would stumble upon us as it moved around so if you live in a fairly urban area or know of any parks that are popular with PokeGo players that have a lot of gyms, you probably have a decent chance of running into a crowd or two. btw if you happen to live in Hampton Roads and are wondering where might a good place be to visit, go to the Pagoda in Downtown Norfolk, over by Nauticus and the USS Wisconsin. Pray the rain isn't too bad and be sure to say hi to the guy in beard and glasses wearing a blue Vault 111 bookbag.

I finally got my second Alolan Vulpix after getting a super lovely one the first time around. And the best part is she's from Tbilisi, Georgia. She's now a Ninetails, and will go in literally every gym I ever capture until the end of time.

by the way i dunno if it was ever mentioned but lucky eggs do affect experience gained by friendship increases. so just by saving up 5 dudes for best friends and popping a lucky egg before opening their gift, you get a million experience. i will definitely be doing this, gonna try for at least ten people at once.

My friend does not play POGO. Yesterday he took me out to dinner for my birthday, and as we head over, I see a Raichu raid at a nearby store. "We need to go there! I need that Pokemon!" So he did a U-turn, spun us to the store, and waited for me to battle and catch it, even with the game glitching and me getting mad, only to find Raichu chilling in my inventory. Best early bday present ever.

Are the birds confirmed to be back in rotation in the research boxes at some point? I don’t really care about getting the strongest bird, so if I can just wait do them via research instead of hoping to get to a raid I’m just gonna do that

Because if it’s the second it would be hard to predict when you needed to lucky egg for.

It really does bear repeating, if you live in or near to even a moderately sized town or city just join your local discord for fucks sake and stop arsing about worrying about not making raids or missing Pokémon or complaining about not being able to find other players. Complaining about being too socially awkward is not cute or an acceptable excuse, it’s frankly pathetic. There’s all sorts of people who turn up to raids who run the whole gamut from tublord basement dwelling goon types to olds who got into the game because of their kids or for exercise and then even socially well adjusted people who can hold a conversation without freaking out, and no matter where you fit on that spectrum you’ll be welcome to turn up and participate with the bare minimum of interaction required. Also the majority of the social aspect is just waiting with a small group of people, saying "Ready to start?" and then tapping on your screen until the fight is done and walking away. I know in most of the raid groups I've joined it's mostly really quiet or the odd person talking about IV's or a rare pokemon they found.

Is regular Sandshrew's animation when you click on him the same between both versions or does Alolan Sandshrew specifically have one that ends up looking like a curling stone? Cause that's cute as heck I'm 10 candies away from evolving both this guy and my diglett, you couldn't just give me 10 more in my eggs POGO??

Regarding knowing about raids, one of the benefits to being in a gym is that you get to know what raids are happening in it. So I have pokemon in 5 gyms right now, if any raids happen in them they will show up on my nearby raids radar.

While this is true, if you really, really don't want to get involved for whichever reason, as long as your local group uses the public lobby, you can sit apart from everyone else, pretend you're working or whatever, and join in anyway. As long as you're still within range of the gym you don't need to actually be with the group of people.

Clicking on a defended gym with a raid/egg will show the hatch time or raid boss in the radar. It's still tedious, but at least now you don't have to type "defender" and click through each Pokemon. Just do it in the badges

You only get 5 free raid passes for Zapdos day, right? So the people chaining like 10+ of them together are just using premium passes? I'll probably get a chance to use all 5 of my freebies at least, but sadly I don't think I'll have time to drive around for more, as much as I'd like the extra XP and more shots at a shiny.

If you already started your day with a free pass in your inventory, it'll be six free passes total. Anything after that will need to be with premium passes.

I was going through my Pokemon and looking at their stuff with an IV calculator and I got a perfect IV Snorlax at some point so that's pretty cool. Can't live the dream until I can have a perfect IV Klefki but that's a ways off

I would much rather hide in my car and then leave immediately, still knowing how much that doesn't help me.
