Yeah, he isn't a literal demon that kills millions of people because "all life is a crime", so I suppose in his setting, yes, he is a good guy. The bar is really low though.

From a certain point of view Judge Death's "Only the living commit crimes thus life itself is a crime" policy does get results, the dead don't commit crime. :v:

There is one where he was still in Vietnam and he drowns a soldier under his command who had raped a Vietcong woman. That’s all I know, but I haven’t read many.

That Chicago cop’s EDC is hiding a couple things, though. The drop gun and baggie of heroin for when he shoots someone unarmed and wants to hedge his bets.

Yeah, that's the comic where it's implied that he made a literal deal with Satan to survive an attack on his firebase. He directly or indirectly kills more than one bad soldier (like intentionally leading a lovely officer where a VC sniper can get him).

I miss the days when cops felt they had to frame people to get away with murder and not just say they feared for their life (cuz a newspaper blew by).

The thing about the Punisher that is lost on all these chucklefucks is that he KNOWS he's a monster and accepts it. He also basically takes down anyone trying to emulate him for that reason. At least that's the sense I get from reading the comics. I love the comics but no one should loving think he's a hero or use the logo for anything even vaguely related to actual policing (LOL USA).

The Netflix series is way more sympathetic. Comic Frank would murder Netflix Frank in some horrifying way.

Edit: Better role model for police is the loving Comedian.

I vaguely recall a bunch of neo-nazis publicly latching on to the Punisher series on Netflix, implying he would side with them or something ridiculous (lol) and the actor who plays Frank Castle was like "Yo, I'm Jewish, you loving morons."
Chuds enthusiastically embracing someone as their hero, who is expressly presented as The Bad Guy is one of the better self-owns.

My only exposure to the Punisher is foggy memories from the comics as a child in the 80s, and then Netflix's Daredevil and The Punisher. My reading was basically: You can feel sympathy for what happened to him and his family, he sometimes does heroic things, but holy fricking Christ he is vividly portrayed as a monster and not a good guy/hero.

Again, get a Swiss Army knife. Even the most basic bigger-than-keychain model has a bottle opener. Or if you don't/can't have the most utilitarian of knives, plenty of places give these out with their logo on, I have six or so kicking around.

The thing that sticks out to me the most from reading Punisher: War Journal as a kid was him describing his van's security system. He basically rigs a normal car alarm with explosives, and he specifically mentions how funny it would be if those darn neighborhood kids jump the roof of his van, like kids, do, I guess?
