If you need lots of Gold and Silver for Freighter Command Rooms

Herox breaks down into Silver (1:250)
Lemmium breaks down into Gold (1:250)
Magno-Gold breaks down into Gold
Living Slime (and goop and viscous fluid) breaks down into Silver as well

If you have a Personal Forcefield, you use it with L1.

You can put three Movement Upgrades in each of your main suit Inventory and your Technology tab. Do this. You can get up to 1200% Jetpack duration this way. Yes, twelve hundred per cent.

You only ever need one colored Hyperdrive upgrade - they are "backwards compatible". The order is Cadmium, Emeril, Indium. You can find the materials for each drive in the star color of the previous drive; in other words, Red stars often have Cadmium, which is used to make an Emeril drive, which allows you to visit Green stars, which often have Emeril, which allows you to make the Indium Drive, which allows you to visit Blue (or any) stars.

Powershift posted:

I'm sure there's some stuff i'm missing, but here's my attempt:

Simple quick start guide:

1. Follow the tutorial until it gives you the option to free explore
2.a. mine enough to build a few warp cells, warp to a few new sectors visiting the station and pick up all the missions except deliveries. or
b. join random games, and visit the station, pick up any missions, etc
3.similar missions stack, so completing one completes them all, this should give you a supply of nanites
4.with nanites buy S-level upgrades for the phase cannon, life support, mining laser, scanner. Don't buy upgrades for photon cannon
5.build a base, build and populate the specialist terminals, follow through the missions to learn how to farm and get the exocraft
6.make money(see below)
7.teleport to each station from step 2, behind the leftmost vender is an exosuit upgrade you can buy. warp/join until you have as many slots as you want/need. ignore drop pods, drop pods suck.

Examples of how to make money:

-3 S-class scanners stacked in your tool will give you 150-400k per plant/animal scanned
-Farming mushrooms/mordite/cacti in their native biomes allow you to make liquid explosive that is $1m a pop
-Missions will eventually start rewarding you with expensive items, some of which can be combined to make even more expensive ones
-scanning every animal on a planet and uploading it gives a large bonus. there are nocturnal and cave specific animals that can be hard to find

How do i?

-get a freighter: the first freighter you save from pirates is given to you for free, make it count
-Find crashed ships: find navigation data in the stations, land on a planet, build a signal booster, use the navigation data to search for distress signals
-Repair all these broken bits on it!: don't, wait until another ship lands on your freighter and trade your busted one for a working one
-get formulas: use navigation data and the signal booster to search secured frequencies to find manufacturing facilities. shoot the door with the ship or use the plasma launcher. you can reload if you get the puzzle wrong
-get bluerprints: use your visor to search for burried technology, these look like downward pointing arrows, each one will either give you nanites, or tokens to use in the blueprint scanner you can build at your base

Things to have at all times:
Signal booster: good for finding ships/manufacturing facilities/ancient sites. Don't keep forgetting it everywhere like a jerk
Portable refiner: you never know when you'll need a more advanced material
Ferrite dust

Things you should know:

-magnetic ferrite goes a lot farther to charging your terrain tool than the lower forms of ferrite
-upgrades don't carry over to your new ship/tool, but you can disassemble them for 50% of the parts before trading
-every station has 5-6 blue/orange cubes or small black circles on tables/desks, touching them gives you nanite clusters or navigation data
-buy fuel or the parts to make it in bulk. launcher fuel stacks 20 deep in regular inventory
-some ships come with a launcher efficiency module, this reduces the fuel used per launch to 10-15% and helps greatly in the early game.
-The first freighter you save from pirates is given to you for free
-Broken ships you claim but don't repair appear on your freighter when you get one. You can trade them for working ships that land on your freighter
-Don't claim more than 8 additional broken ships or there is nowhere for new ships to land in your freighter to trade
-Multi-tool/suit/ship upgrades in the same category have to be touching for the effects to fully stack
-Fly backwards shoot forwards until you have a good fighting ship
-you don't have to stay in the refeiner for it to keep working
-the stationary refiner doesn't need fuel
-you get a full refund on components for base parts you delete
-hit the melee button then quickly hit the jetpack button to fly forward at high speed
-if a sentinel can see you, you get a white arrow in your central vision and a flashing sentinal sign. if it turns blue, stop destroying poo poo because you're being scanned
-you can zap stuff from anywhere into your on-base storage but can only remove it manually
-the 3 hyperdrive upgrades allow you to warp to different colored stars with different/advanced planets and materials
-quick charge stuff by pressing down on the d-pad/arrow keys, it automatically goes to whatever is lowest.
-don't leave the atmosphere with sentinels on you, you can't lose the ships, or use your pulse engine with them on you. Just hover low to the ground until you lose them before going to space
-you can restart missions you get too far from in order to bring them closer to you.
-you can only add 3 letter-graded upgrades to each device, but you can have 2 groups of 3 in your suit and poo poo by having 3 in your main storage and 3 in your tech slots.
-don't plant plants on modified land, the game might eventually fill it in :(

Funkmaster General posted:

How to find your 24-slot S-rank Multitool :

* Install an economy scanner in your ship and unlock and build a save point (carry this with you).

* Find and warp to a rich star system (last word of the economy report should be something like wealthy, oppulent, booming, etc). These have higher chance of selling an S-rank multitool. As an added bonus, they also have a higher volume of ships, which equates to a higher chance you'll find an exotic ship while you're working on the tool.

* Visit the space station and check the multitool shop display. This is important: The class ranking of the tool displayed here will never change. If it's an A-class tool, it will always be an A-class tool. Keep warping until you find an S-class display. Don't forget to buy exosuit upgrades from each station!

* Once you find the S-class display case, we're going to use a trick to reroll the contents of it. Fly to one of the planets and land. Place the save point on the ground and use it. Wait a second for the save to register, then go into the menu and reload the last manual save (the one you just made).

* Fly back to the station and check the display again. If you don't like the results (it isn't 24-slot, you don't like the color or model, or you'd rather try for an experimental or alien tool), fly to a different planet and repeat. You can do this once for each planet and moon in the system.

The reason this works is that every planet has a multitool associated with it, that you can buy from one of the buildings on that planet. However, some planets don't have that building. Each system also has a multitool, which is for sale on the space station. The station tool is determined when you warp to the system, but if you load a game and never warp, the station just sells the last planetary tool it loaded up instead. For some reason, it's the display case that determines the rank and stats of a tool, but the planet determines the model, color, installed tech, and number of slots.

I beat Subnautica, albeit on Easy because Food and Thirst meters can suck it, and I liked that it had a plot and ultimate goal. This did mean that the world was handcrafted with no RNG so replays would be samey. The real sins of that game was the pop-in, the atrocious land-controls and graphics on the two islands, and the cumbersome inventory management. Also the last act of the story was just two scavenger hunts which is take it or leave it.

If NMS gets a price-drop and the NEXT update is well received I'd take it, and I do hope the game is fleshed out enough to merit exploring. Joseph Anderson said two years ago that the only point of farming materials is to upgrade your tools to get better at farming materials, so I'm wary if the game is still a monotone grind. At least there's grass.

/\/\ it is just an empty grind and it wont ever change, but there is creative mode to ignore the grind completely. The game is just to go around and look at neat little poo poo withiut any expectations.

Survival to me just seems obnoxious. Increased resource costs across the board, increased hazard intensity, and a more annoying death penalty. I'm sure some people like the challenge and risk but I just want to see the new content and play with friends.

It's still just space exploration and base building, just now with 4 friends and random people along for the ride. It's not going to be EVE Online but there's communities that all go to one part of space thanks in part to a portal system.

You can chose to follow the story to head to the center of the universe. Following the story allows you to select from one of four new procgen seeds (Same as before, more extreme, more earth like planets, abandoned.) Just reaching the center advances the seed by one (to the same as before universe.) The end message of the story is nobody exists on purpose, nobody belongs anywhere, everybody's gonna die. Now watch out for the whip fern.

Yeah Survival is just a masochistic grind, I don't expect that's changed for NEXT but maybe eventually they'll balance it into something more "fun". It's kinda fun to escape the first planet but then after that it's just a pain in the rear end.

Low-atmosphere worlds with an Dead biome are characterized by a complete lack of flora and fauna. They have rocky and dusty surfaces and are comparable to some real life airless terrestrial bodies like Mars or the Moon. Some worlds have an atmosphere while others don't. These worlds tend to have higher amounts of resources compared to other biomes. Bring sufficient Power Gels and Thamium9 when exploring these worlds, as they increase the strain on Life Support.

Yellow stars in Tranquil galaxies have 1/4 the chance to have dead planets, and yellow stars in Ancestral galaxies have 2x the chance, compared to other star types.

Unlike other biomes, dead worlds never contain any structures such as trading posts.

I've played plenty of Survival on NMS and yeah it's a needless gind on anything crafting (I think it's a flat 3x multiplier on all costs) and you use up all your fuel to launch so landing epsecially early on is a huge loving risk if you land and surprise the planet is a hellhole and there's no fuel nearby. That said, survival at the start is actually a fun challenge as you try to repair your poo poo. Making trips miles away to find enough resources while also avoiding the elements or hostile creature is a really experience. Getting off the planet is this really rewarding thing that takes a few hours (to do it safely) and I appreciate survival for that. Unfortunately the oppressive fuel and crafting cost really limited how much exploring and base building you could get away with unless you sank A TON of time into grinding materials. I still manage to carve out enough of a base to set up a farm to make money, it just took a lot more time.

I've been enjoying survival, because the increased hazards make exploring some planets more risky, but I wish there was a way to toggle which survival options you want. The fact that taking off uses up all of the fuel in your launch thrusters seriously discourages exploration, which seems counter-intuitive for this game, but if you make sure to recharge the thrusters as soon as you take off you won't be stuck anywhere. I also will sometimes carve up gold deposits for cash, so money isn't really much of an issue for me, and I use the cash to buy plutonium from space stations instead of farming it myself(though I do collect it where I see it when exploring).

Before I had all of this figured out, I got stuck on a planet with frenzied sentinels, and I had very little life support when I had gotten out of my ship, so when I died, I had to run around trying to collect enough thamium to recharge my life support, and enough plutonium to lift off, all while being chased by sentinels. Eventually it got too frustrating and I had to load an earlier save, which I'm glad was an option. If I could play Survival mode without the increased resource costs, or Normal mode with increased planetary hazards, that would be a sweet spot for me.

the planet gen looks way better in that preview, he flies towards a blue and orange planet and that's actually what it is when he lands on it. I also like the fact that the game can now spawn decently sized flora.

I'm pretty excited for this update, I always felt that NMS (after all the previous updates) was like 90% of the way there, and this might tip it to being the game I originally wanted when it came out which was essentially just a space exploration game with crazy good procgen.

clouds are absolutely the dopest thing shown from Next so far, which is funny because Sean’s magical cloud tech was one of the first things promised after launch and could reasonably called vaporware (heh) after it failed to appear in a year of subsequent updates. (in fact, clouds were completely broken on PS4 when Atlas Rises launched, and if memory serves it wasn’t until the last patch pre-hibernation that they finally got fixed)

the subreddit has already gone through a whole loop of (1) being amazed at the clouds (2) seeing a brief leaked clip and panicking that the clouds in the trailer were faked (3) rationalizing that the leaked copy is running on an OG xbox one without the launch day patch, and also the clouds might be different on this planet (4) begging for and receiving a clip of only the clouds, proving they’re real as hell and not bullshit. so here is a minute of some nice clouds:
