If you're familiar with The Darts, you might like this thread. If you've never heard of The Darts, you're missing out. Take the best of the obnoxious flash of professional wrestling, the vocal, animated, progressively drunker crowds of English soccer, and a game lots of people half-drunkenly play at the corner bar/pub, and you have Unibet Premier League Darts. Why Should I Watch The Darts? I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLDZ_7FkqSw just look at that...and then the crowd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykhc3rdNYOw ...wears costumes and has unlimited access to alcohol, chants along to the matches, and loses their minds at many events, often cheering for both players simultaneously as opposed to one or the other. How Does It Work? It's typical darts, with a points system determining an end-of-season playoff system. If you don't know how The Darts are played (as I didn't until I started watching on FS2 and FS Ohio a couple years ago), the large sections under each number result in their corresponding score. The outer ring is worth double, the inner is worth triple. The outer ring of the bullseye is 25 and the "middle bit/red bit" is worth 50. The game counts down from 501 and must be finished by hitting a double or the bullseye. (For example, you have 100 left. One finish could be Triple 20 (60), Double 20 (40) to win the leg/game/set. It doesn't work the other way around.) The fastest way to end a game is through the incredibly rare nine-darter. As the name implies, the game is finished with nine darts: two 180s (triple 20s twice), then most easily one of the following: quote:treble 20 (60), treble 19 (57) and double 12 (24) In several years of watching, I've seen one nine-darter and the crowd hits an unthinkably higher gear when it happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGNZ3GqYrVY Why Do You Keep Calling It The Darts? Because they insist on using the definite article in front of "Darts". One of the most common fan chants is "If you love The Darts, stand up". I don't make the rules, I just have attending on my bucket list. You Sold Me. Sign Me Up -After random coverage on FS2 and FOX Sports regional networks in the US before disappearing, The Darts has gloriously reappeared on BBC America in the US, 10pm Eastern on Thursday nights now through May. Check local listings. When we get to December, the World Championships may also reappear on BBCA. --Bored at work? I'm amazed that darts is so big nowadays than an American has started a moderately ironic thread about it in the sports section of an Internet comedy forum. Time was when there was one week a year we'd all cheer on Wolfie and Barney and then forget about it for the next 51.

That clip is also great because the announcers also get into it hardcore. I remember one time the color analyst wishing the Worlds were "best of thirty-seven BEST OF A HOONDRED ELEVEN!" Checking-in to the Dartistry Thread. Barney is my favourite dartist because his post-win interviews in 2013 were all a variant of "couldn't even see the board cos of my diabetes."

There's a local (Ohio) sports radio host who featured The Darts in an episode of his personal podcast and it was great. He played the audio of Phil's double nine-darters from the video upthread.runoverbobby posted:Episodes? I think you meant to say matches. The dartistry is the pinnacle of sporting prowess. Game on. BBC America shows condensed one hour or hour and a half versions of each week's event in the US, as FOX Sports did before them, so they're more like episodes here.

What's fun about this in terms of the matches is, as I mentioned in the OP, the fans will pull for both players over the course of the match. You might have somebody who's highly popular (Phil), but the crowd will also actively pull for his opponent. You're not going to see that in any other sport.

Yeah that's an English thing. If the favourite falls way behind he becomes the underdog, and The Underdog Shall Always Be Supported, else the event turns boring. It happens at Wimbledon too, even if Andy Murray is involved (but unprecedentedly, it doesn't happen with Roger).

Wh...why did we get a 15 minute pre-show two weeks ago in a one-hour program? Why did we only get one and a sixth's worth of matches and then a message saying "For more Darts, go to BBCAmerica.com"? Is that what this is going to be?

FIX THE loving BOARD IN THE OP ITS ASKEW. I was about to make a thread but then I found this on page 4. I even had a title thought up, "Darts: you dont have to be in shape for this sport!" We played on and off here but I bought my first set of darts about a year ago and shortly after stabbed my first 180. We threw a league together in late October, and in January won 2/3 regional divisions we entered teams in. I'm a competitive person but in true goon fashion, not really good at things requiring real athleticism, just shooting and stabbing people in video games. To get to go and compete in something for the first time since high school feels awesome and I'm really glad we put together the beer league. I'm burning away too much time practicing, but its paying off. Shot a 107 average 14 dart leg the other day, had 4 or 5 18 darters and a couple 138 checkouts. If there isn't anywhere with a good selection of supplies local to you, hell, even if there is, you oughta check out Darts Corner. As long as you aren't ordering anything big like a board or something the shipping is really cheap and your darts, shafts and flights etc are all very cheap as well. I was looking at the Van Barneveld 80% tungsten darts and the cheapest I could find locally was nearly $70 tax in. Ordered from Darts Corner, along with 29 (!) sets of shafts, 3 sets of flights and a free gift thrown in, 54 bucks total. Theres also Webcam Darts where you can set up a webcam and play with people online, but most peoples setups are understandably not good and the whole thing just feels too awkward to me. Watching darts can be a real pain from across the pond, being on in the middle of the afternoon and my provider doesn't offer any way to watch it legit. Sportixer on youtube has replays of most matches up quickly after they are done. The PDC does offer a legit streaming service for people in the UK as well as international viewers, but I dont think that covers whats on Sky, I'd have to double check. Finally, as amusing as the Russ Bray scorer must be, for Windows PCs you should definitely check out this app for keeping your scores. It syncs across devices, provides graphs and stats to track your progress, and allows you to play against the computer. I'm currently on level 5. It even allows you to use your own audio files for announcing the scores (Microsoft robot by default) , I've been thinking about ripping Bray's call from one of the many videos online and even just adding the 180 in there.

Though Gary is head and shoulders above everyone not named van Gerwen, this is why people like to see MvG lose. If he is gone, you are very likely to get a good close match like this in the final. I was getting a bit concerned after the last few outings, and Gary had said van Gerwen might get into a bit of a funk and its hard to shake, then Wright said he's "good not great". Might have known that would light a fire under him.
