Any tips for MGSV?

I also have a few!

*Most of the plot is told through your audio logs. Listen to those.

*An easy to miss subplot requires you to enter a room in the Medical Strut at Mother Base. You have to extract one of your old comrades from a submission that hands you a photo in order to trigger it.

*Lots of missions require you to have gear that you unlock later before you can 100% complete them or achieve S-ranks.

*Night Vision will reveal cracks on the side of walls/hills you can climb up. These are almost always better options for sneaking behind objectives.

*Throwing a smoke grenade into a vehicle and driving it will cloak you, and is very silly.

I don't want to go too crazy with tips but like any MGS game, there's a lot of little things. Play with your tools and experiment.

This absolutely breaks the game and fucks up enemy AI so don't do it for anything besides loving around IMO.

Gamestop brand wired 360 controller. It works find on most things and with stress I was dealing with recently I just didn't have the energy to try eighteen different things in the hopes I could use a controller like normal.

A helpful tip for Just Cause 2 I keep forgetting to mention is if you think you're finishing up a base and aren't sure if there are SAM launchers just get in a helicopter and start trying to take off.

Yeah there's only a few missions that have Objectives you won't be able to complete until you unlock specialists.

I guess if you were to use D-Horse exclusively and just fly through the objectives as fast as possible, you can tackle the bulk of S-Ranks. I find it easier to come back to them with better gear and more options to knock those out.

I could just be bad at the game. :v:

It's a pretty straight forward game, the only thing I would say is don't go melee only unless you're playing with other people. Getting shot at by missile launchers while not being able to shoot back is no fun at all, and the AIs aren't smart enough to prioritize them.

Hey I just beat this

Most of the stuff you'd care about missing are side quests, which can lead to boosting the approval of your castaways (affects performance during raids and the ending). For the most part none of these should ever be missable so long as you check the board after major plot scenes, but I remember two distinct parts that I had to look up:

-When you get the ability to breathe underwater, you will fight a certain boss. Return to the boss's lair after beating it to pick up the Lombardia's sign, it's a gift to a certain castaway.
-There is a quest in the village involving composing a song for a castaway; the quest is started in the village but you need to go to Eternia to talk to a muse to get the needed lyrics to complete it. This is not immediately obvious because there will not be a quest icon IIRC in Eternia.
-Not necessarily a sidequest, but there is also one gift that is obtained by getting Rank A in one of the later game raids, this is the only plot-relevant item you get from a raid as far as I know. Getting Rank A is pretty easy so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

That's about it, everything else should be pretty self-explanatory. Explore as much as you are able to, try to hit every green/blue marker on the map (sometimes they will hide new castaways), and trek on. It's not a particularly hard game otherwise.

IIRC there's a side mission early on asking you to make a certain meal for someone, but you find the recipe for the meal relatively close to the point where the side mission auto-fails, so better make sure to get that mission finished as soon as you get the recipe.

Branding and sieges seem to be the two big pieces. Finishing the first siege unlocks a lot of content for your branded captains.

If the game tracks something in the list of collectibles, then you can go back for it. Don't worry too much about XP, it's sparse at first but the game throws it at you later. Your level is really meaningful in combat, so make sure you're keeping gear up to date.

Tressa's a good starting character, and well worth keeping in your party the entire game, because she finds money on the ground any time you change areas.

Olberic's also a good regular to get early (and right near Tressa on the map), because Level Slash never stops being useful for mob-clearing. It's also well worth learning Thousand Spears ASAP, because any time you hit a boss or random enemy with a spear weakness you're pretty much guaranteed to shred 3-4 tiers of armor.

Oh, and the Shrine for the Cleric secondary job is right outside the entrance to Ophilia's starting town. It's the icon that looks like a musical instrument just south of the town entrance, make sure you get it for party-heal spells. The rest of the Shrines are all in Chapter 2 regions.

I would also suggest starting as Therion if you have loot OCD since you need him to lockpick purple chests and Steal SP is a bit crazy early game. Still unsure if purple chests are really worth it honestly.

A telegraphed attack by an enemy that is red is unblockable and will gently caress your poo poo. One that is yellow is blockable but will stagger you. There are perfect blocks in this game, but you can't do that against either of those attack types. Get out of the way instead.

Atreus is useful enough in combat that you wouldn't be remiss to upgrade him first, above everything else.

Level matters a lot in combat. Fighting something even 2 levels above you will not be pleasant.

There is one attack (I think you have to buy it?) which lets you hold R2 to charge an axe strike. This one takes a little while but it great for finishing off weaker enemies in a very GOW fashion.

Maybe I'm crazy/misremembering but I'm pretty sure you can do perfect blocks on "yellow" attacks. Helps a lot against a certain group of optional bosses.

Could anyone share a bit more advice on Destiny 2? Mostly, I'm wondering about the early, somewhat single-player-ish art of the game. Once, I completed a mission for the lady on the farm (Hawthorne?) and it got me a really cool reward (gloves that made it so I had infinite grenades after punching dudes to death), but I haven't noticed anything like it since. Instead, when I "approach" NPCs, they show me rewards that I can apparently trade emblems for, but I have no idea what it's talking about.

I'm also picking up a lot of planet-specific poo poo (EDZ discs, Alkane dust, etc.) that I can turn in with NPCs, but all it seems to do is fill up a bar and absolutely nothing else.

It seems that those things only become relevant at level 20, so if it becomes super clear once you hit that point, just tell me to wait until I'm level 20, but so far it seems like half the game is in tongues. And to be honest, so is the Destiny 2 thread.

Death before dishonor?
Your terms are accepted.

If I recall, when the bar fills (which is a reputation meter) you can pick one of the pieces of gear they offer. It's not worth worrying about while leveling up, just save the token things for later.

Any of the yellow Exotic gear is worth hanging on to, because even if it's low level you can feed it higher ilvl gear to raise it up to a higher level and keep the effects of it, so if you find one you like (the first one for most people is the Sunspot pistol), you can fairly easily feed it an item of the same class every once in awhile as you start getting higher level gear and not have to replace it with a blue or a purple or something if you don't want to.

You mean the original?

1: you will eventually want to make your own map of every area so you can notate it. this is not optional, unless you plan to use a walkthrough. if you start early on you can also mark down various other things you may need to return to.
2: read the manual thoroughly, because puzzles may require knowledge only available within it.
3: some combinations of msx carts have special effects. often there is no hint to these at all, anywhere.

I'm playing the Steam (and also Wii?) remake, which replaces the MSX with a Laptop, and the carts with programs. So, definitely a bit different. The map and manual things seem like they'll carry over, though.

Ok, then you should realize you can scan a lot of stuff and get information, including background objects or statues. These will often offer hints and may help you figure out what to do. Also, the in-game map may lack details but it gives you the name of the room you're in, which is easily overlooked but might help you out sometime.

al-azad

La-Mulana is fairly obtuse and the remake still has things that are permanently missable. The game still does a good job of letting you go to other places when you're stuck so jot down notes about conspicuous areas you think you should reach and go back when you get a new item. This is especially true regarding the bosses who are usually locked behind gates that require an item or ability in another area.

Also if you read a tablet that says don't read it again you probably shouldn't read it again.

Destiny 2 is incredibly obtuse and confusing to start out with and then once you get the hang of it and reach level 20 / finish the campaign it dumps a whole load of new weird stuff on you and never really explains it. Specifically you should ignore all the emblems and trade in stuff until you achieve both of those.

Ask in the thread or join one of the discords and we'll do our best. Also the OP of the thread is insane and terrible so try to skim it
