Though honestly at the risk of alienating myself I have to ask; do you guys care if an artist you like draws kink stuff on the side? And I mean really weird poo poo, not some busty fox girls that are downright wholesome nowadays. I've tried to adopt the mentality of "if they keep it to themselves then who cares" as long as its not anything illegal. I think some artists have a problem of letting their fetishes slip into their work in some not-so subtle ways, but you can avoid that if you're conscientious about it. Also I've found a lot of artists I really like and if I never looked at their art just because they are into stuff I'm not then I feel like I'd miss out on a lot of neat content.

i really couldnt care less honestly, as long as its not something thats universally considered beyond the pale by all people outside of internet cesspits (outright pedophilia etc) some of my favorite artists draw stuff on the side im personally not too interested in but thats not really my business is it :v

I'm quite happy to ignore weird fetish art, and sometimes quite like it if they make something funny out of it, Oglaf being a good example. I think the key is to go for absurdist or self deprecating humour; the worry is always that a person's weird interests are a sign of something weird deep down, so it's kind of comforting when they're cool about how bizarre their interests are.

Here is my thought more specifically, and written less like a online b-hole: human sexuality is a beautiful, complicated thing and i think theres an incredible depth to the subjects you can explore related to it. But when i look at online content, kink and fetish stuff and all that i feel aliented by most of it. Its like everyone is focused on one act or one property, whatever their "kink" is, to the exclusion of all the other vital components that make sex sexy. Who are you with? How did you get there? How do you feel about them? How does sex change your perception of them? Does it change their perception of you? Where does love come into it? Is love leaving it? Where does love come from in the first place? Maybe its corny to ask, but where IS the love? This is all of course maybe silly to ask of content that is intentionally masturbatory and to make $$$$ but i think a lot of porn artists could be reaching more, theres too much thats like an escalating series of inhumanly gigantic asses, or various video game cartoon characters having specific things done to them, or blah blah blah blah. I like jess finks work and ovens, for instance, because they approach those kinda feelings in their work. Sex with depth. Like in real life, but still ultimately far less fullfilling. But closer.

Sometimes people get horny and just want to get off and maybe they don't need to push the boundaries of narrative art to do so. Personally, I would like to see some of what you're discussing up there show up in mainstream non-porn stories. Sex is used as shorthand for a lot of things - like, a quick way to show people are in love or as a reward for saving the world - and there are a lot of other, more interesting ways to show these relationships that are definitely way harder to do. For that matter, i think too much emphasis is placed on romantic leads in stories, shoving any non-romantic relationships out of the picture almost entirely. To me anyway, expecting these kinds of existential questions to be addressed in material designed specifically for people who are acutely horny and want to become not-as-horny seems like kind of a frustrating path to be on.

I made it through the initial jury process to the State Fair fine art show here, and now I found out I didn't make it in. Again! This is like the 5th juried show in a row I haven't made it into and it is so disheartening. Especially since I got my hopes up making it through the first round. Guess I should have drawn porn instead. E: Anyone have any good instagram follows for art? For my main media which is colored pencil, it is 99% realistically drawn and 75% animal portraits. Anyone have a good tutorial on how to go about doing colored lighting? I can do shading fine when I'm working with black for shadows and white for highlights, but trying to use any other colours just looks weird. But if I wanted something to be illuminated by, say, a campfire then it should have an orange glow.

I don't have any tutorials on hand but one thing that helped me was to stop using black and white entirely, very few things in real life are actually black or white. Generally speaking, shadow areas tend to shift towards the complementary color on the color wheel from the light source. So, if you have yellow light (like the sun) then mixing some purple into your colors will help get a more realistic color than darkening with black. An orange campfire would have some deep bluish purple shadows. Obviously you can mess around with this for dramatic effect or mood, it's not a hard and fast rule, but if you're just starting out with lighting and color then the best thing to do is to stop using black and white and start using colors based on the complements of your lighting.

Color theory's vital for understanding color and how it relates to itself and what kinds of color combinations are effective but eventually you're going to start noticing relationships outside of what it can suggest to you and thats when your work's gonna "become itself" so to speak. Always keep your eyes open, always look at how light and color are interacting with objects in the real world. You DO have an eye for judging and picking color, or else you would not be able to see color, so this is what you refine. I'd also recommend getting a limited palate of cheap watermedia in addition to digital, its easier to figure out how colors blend that way.

(guess what i've been doing lol) i haven't had a dinky little tray of watercolours since i was a literal child, but i was forced to buy one on thursday because there was nothing else available... and i love it! it's so fast and convenient! it's better than photoshop!
