Maybe a bit off center of the thread, but Kikagaku Moyo has a new record and tour this fall. I saw them opening for Earthless earlier this year and was really blown away.

They're coming to DC in October. I may try to go. That month we also get Roky Erickson and Deafheaven. Too many shows and not enough time, energy or money to justify them all.

drat, I'll be at Days of Darkness when Roky is in town, otherwise I would be there. I would have loved to see the Elevators reunion a couple years back.

Re. psych, Earthless collaborated with loads of great bands at Roadburn including Kikagaku Moyo, also Minami Deutsch, Damo Sukuzi all playing crossover shows. and honestly they were way better than the standard Earthless set, just flawless set after flawless set of hour long nonstop jams. Amazing chemistry, flow, musicianship. Definitely don't miss it if you're at all into that side of things.

Also, is it me or is Metallica by Black Sheep Wall one of the best songs of its genre? It's still my favourite sludge song of the past decade. (also god those lyrics :I )

You gotta add the context, man:

quote:

“I had a dream about Lemmy,” says Matt Pike, explaining the inspiration behind the title of High on Fire’s triumphant new “Electric Messiah.” “When Lemmy was still alive I always got compared to Lemmy,” the gravelly-voiced guitarist elaborates, “so I had this dream where he got pissed at me.”

“He gave me a bunch of poo poo, basically, and was hazing me. Not that he didn’t approve of me, but like I was being hazed. The song is me telling the world that I could never fill Lemmy’s shoes because Lemmy’s Lemmy. I wanted to pay homage to him in a great way. And it turned out to be such a good title that the guys said we should call the album ‘Electric Messiah.'”

Yeah - there's no way this doesn't come back around some some deep reptile/Biblical/time-traveling conspiracies.

Also, new ep of Fried Lightning https://soundcloud.com/user-758985205/fried-lightning-podcast-ep-9-bongripper-terminal - still the world's dumbest podcast after all these months. A few weeks late, but they cover Terminal by Bongripper. Upcoming eps look to be about Enslaved, Thou, and probably that new High on Fire when it comes out.

You can't rate it 4.20 on iTunes, but that's pretty close to 5 https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/fried-lightning/id1374747745?mt=2

I just binge revisited Asunder's entire discography over the past day and goddamn, those dudes were onto something. I feel like there's no funeral doom act save for maybe Bell Witch that manages to convey this enormous sense of weight throughout, and the guitar tone is just absolutely massive.

Any goons going to Scorched Tundra? I got a ticket to the first night (Monolord/Lair of the Minotaur). Still deciding on the second because I haven’t figured out if watching the two sports teams I hate the most play each other takes precedence over seeing Couch Slut.

What’s the small piece of equipment that Wata has on a stand next to her when playing live, anyone know? Their bass levels shook that thing off last night and it landed right on her pedals, knocking the wah into high position but she made it through like a champ.

it's an Ebow
it vibrates guitar strings so you don't have to pick them to make sound. It makes like a violin string sound. They are way fun.

I mean the thing the ebow is resting on. And now that you mention it I should find my ebow I bought like 30 years ago and see if it still works, maybe now I’d have some idea how to use it properly :v:
