I mean let’s be honest, they’re pretty much done. But at least they had one of the most consistent runs in rock n roll.

Angry Anderson of Rose Tattoo says Angus told him that Axl is in the band:

quote:

Mark: You’re right people are listening to that great music again, listening to Rose Tattoo, AC/DC, Zeppelin, it’s all coming round again, kids are rediscovering great music.

Angry: Exactly, I was talking to Angus earlier last year when we were doing the encores and we were opening for Guns ‘n’ Roses but Angus and I were asked to do the encores and I said to him “What are you going to do?” and he said “Mate I’m writing a new album.” I thought “Cool” so I asked him who was in the band and he said “Axl.” Brian’s not there, Phil’s not there, Cliff’s not there, sadly Malcolm’s not there. And there are these people, and yes it’s sad that the original line-up aren’t there anymore but it’s the songs, people who have supported them all the way through their career they want to hear the songs. And in a sense we owe that to people, so really it’s a debt of gratitude and what we’re saying is you’ve stood by us, we’ll stand by you. So Angus, and let’s face it he doesn’t need the money, he acknowledges that there are still millions of people around the world that want to hear AC/DC songs played live. In the same way, though on a much lesser scale obviously there are plenty of people around the world who want to hear the songs that made Rose Tattoo famous. They want to hear those songs played live. And this is a line-up that can do that.

He may only be doing studio work.

Also, there was an experimental in-ear monitor he tested that had the potential to protect his hearing onstage.

The situation is unclear ATM...

I think theyll go ahead and perhaps record another album. I dont think I can see him come back to the stage, if there wouldve been a possibility to do so he wouldnt have left it in the first place. More or less gonna be stuck with Axl for now.

That's what I figured after thinking about it for a while

I never did get to see the band with Axl, but I was opposed to the idea, mostly because it seemed like they hosed Brian over pretty badly. I dunno how I feel about album singer/touring singer, but I'll still buy the album the day it comes out, of course

The organizer of the 2019 Rock in Rio festival tried to get AC/DC with Axl to headline next year...and did not succeed

Everyone knows I have a crush on Guns, although Axl is not exactly an easy-going person - but that's fine, he's special and therefore deserves special treatment. We got to talk and I'm sure it would be great, but the negotiations have not advanced.

Solid recent interview with Chris Slade. One especially neat bit:

quote:

I’d been doing demos with the guys in London; Angus, Malcolm, and myself. Mal was playing bass, and Angus was playing rhythm – no lead guitar, just rhythm guitar, which seems very strange, because Malcolm, being one of the greatest rhythm guitarists ever. But he played bass in these sessions, and that went on for weeks, and they were writing as they were going along as well. I thought; “Well, the guys are in the studio and I wouldn’t mind playing drums”, and I put that to them, and they said; “Yeah, come along”, so that’s what I did, again, for weeks and weeks. I’m terrible with titles, but it was for the next album that came out [1995’s ‘Ballbreaker’], and I demoed every track for that album.

I know this is a fact, because after I’d left the band, I went to visit Cliff and Brian. I went to have a pint with them, and they were all in the same apartment complex, and I said; “Oh, where’s Phil [Rudd]?” This is after he’s back in the band, and they said; “Oh, he’s upstairs”, and I heard him playing, learning my drum tracks, which is a turn up for the books, because I usually have to learn his tracks! So, he played my parts that I had demoed for the next album, so that was a little bit of satisfaction, actually.

P.S. Sorry for the lack of actual news, folks. AC/DC is very good ( too good, actually... -_- ) at avoiding the spotlight.

Eh, the duck walk was a Chuck Berry thing long before Angus, and the song sounds like any generic AC/DC sounding song. Maybe it is a new official song, but if it really is, I’m not impressed at all.

We knew he was back. We just didn't know what for exactly. And this still doesn't tell us what exactly, being a second-hand quote. But another regular album is always the most likely thing.

The really big question is live shows, and that is still a total unknown.

The only date that's been rumoured for something being announced is February, and Brian saying something publicly is a good sign, so hopefully we don't have to sit around scratching our heads too much longer...

Let's blast some old poo poo in the meantime, eh?

"The Hero of the Age..."

The hero of all ages
This popped up in my news feed today. Alan Niven (former manager of Great White and Guns 'N Roses) speculated on a recent podcast that Brian may not be able to tour with the band due to his hearing condition.

More importantly, Eddie Trunk had this to say:

quote:

So I have a source that will remain nameless but a very, very, well-placed, reliable source regarding AC/DC who I did run into and ask about AC/DC. This source told me to his knowledge that album is done, that they went to that studio in Canada, made this record and what people speculated on, meaning these were riffs, ideas and more of a tribute to Malcolm Young is true. Meaning that Malcolm had a bunch of stuff recorded that they worked off of and they sort of incorporated the record. So, this is sort of a unity thing to come together, put out some of Malcolm’s music and celebrate AC/DC.“

Trunk continued:

“This source also told me that they don’t know what they are going to do with this record, when and how it’s going to come out and adds that as far as he was aware and he would know, there are no plans for live shows.  Now that could change but there are no plans at this moment to play. However, there was a recording done and they are going to figure out what they are doing with that. So that’s all he told me. He didn’t tell me about Axl or who is on it, he just basically said: “The guys went in, they went in off of some stuff that Malcolm had, it’s a celebration of Malcolm, there is a record done, whether and how that comes out they’re not sure and whether they play or not it’s not sure.”

They've been though a lot. Malcolm passed away, Cliff retired, and Brian potentially can't tour anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if they did this one last album as a tribute to Malcolm and the fans and hung it up. They've had one hell of a ride. It's all up to Angus at the end of the day, though.

Those are variations of the same vague rumours that have been going around since the studio photos.

I honestly don't put much value in AC/DC rumours. Nobody predicted Phil's return, just as nobody predicted Chris Slade rejoining.

Most big name music artists, we know what time they go to the bathroom. AC/DC is like the NSA, except we don't have a Snowden.

o Ang: No idea, Holland? Rumour of the States as well
o Stevie: No real sighting, rumoured to have been in Russia
o Rudd: Totally off the radar
- FEB rumoured to be the month (22 days left)
- Brian had botox
- Phils house sold
- Rumour that Phil has fell of the Rock N Roll Caravan again

- Cliffs hair was a bit shorter, but has now been longified again
- Brian read a book about the Beatles
- Brian talked to some band called Pooparizer and according to them confirmed the album and that he is on it and that he is tired of denying it
- Axl Rose appeared in Looney Tunes with a new song Rock the Rock

Stiff Upper Lip is definitely one of their better ones. I like it better than anything else released past Live or The Razors Edge (though I think I like Razor's Edge a little better).

Rumors have been swirling that because they updated their YouTube channel and such that THEY'RE GOING TO ANNOUNCE TOUR DATES ANY DAY NOW GUYS OMG but we'll see what happens within the next week.

I have to go if they do. I went on the last two tours and I'm not missing this one.

I have quite a lot of love for most of the Brian Johnson led albums. Besides the obvious ones and Razors Edge like you mentioned, Flick of the Switch is one of their best, and I quite like Ballbreaker and Rock or Bust. Black Ice was awesome when it came out because of the tour and the general AC/DC renaissance associated with it, but I think I prefer what came before and after it in terms of solid albums.

If I had to rank the Brian Johnson studio albums, it would be something like:

  1. Flick of the Switch
  2. The Razors Edge
  3. Fly on the Wall
  4. Back in Black
  5. Blow Up Your Video
  6. Stiff Upper Lip
  7. For Those About To Rock
  8. Ballbreaker
  9. Black Ice
  10. Rock or Bust

Not saying the ones near the bottom are "bad" either. If Live was included, it would be near the top. I could swap Blow Up Your Video and Stuff Upper Lip back and forth depending on the day. The newer albums probably just need a little more time to grow on me but they haven't had the staying power the other ones have had obviously.

Not sure I could go about ranking them, but I know Fly on the Wall would be at the bottom for me. Not a fan of most of the songs, or the production on that particular album. I like the song Danger, though. I'm also in agreement that Blow Up Your Video is better than most people give it credit for.
