I mean, if you have to lurm, the HBK 4J is the mech to do it in. You're not wasting tonnage and armor that should be up front (much), and at least it's quirked for it.

I have switched WoL over to...uugh....Jade Falcon in preparation of the upcoming Clan vs. Clan event.
https://mwomercs.com/news/2018/08/2118-jade-falcon-vs-clan-wolf-minicampaign

Last time I dropped as clan in FP I did so in a trial direwolf so yeah, it's been a while. Going to have to build a couple of lasermechs as most of my clan mechs are made for brawling and that is not good in FP. Anyone got a good clan dropdeck without any gauss/atm/lrm bullshit?

Im not taking the warhawk as my assault if that's what you're asking. But a summoner would be a good idea, thanks!
I'm thinking the MC-II-B as my assault, then a HBR of course, a summoner and then maybe a cheetah. Should work, right?

that tier list spreadsheet from reddit has a bunch of FP builds on it too and basically good clan FP builds and good clan QP builds are more or less the same

i admit i don't have enough fp experience to judge the list myself

Hmm sweet, you can do MCII-B, BAS-D, HBK-IIC-A, PIR-1. Dakka is really good in FP and those 2 mechs really brings the THUNDER!

I Remember...
Since we have a lot of new players who may not know this, the fewer mechs you lose in the Faction mode the higher your C-Bill payout at the end. Making it through a round and not losing any mechs can net you over a million c-bills even if your damage and kills aren't that high. It's not easy to do, but it encourages smarter play. It's a great time to bring out any hero or invasion mechs you have that you can pilot well. Your payout for a hero/invasion mech is done per life, so if you survive a whole round on a C-Bill boosted mech you can make a massive amount of money. If it looks like your team is steam rolling the other one, and you are on your first or second mech, play conservatively. It pays off massively.

Sometimes you reach a stalemate. Sometimes you get magic horses.
Uhhh

I'm pretty sure the only thing that matters for the mechs living thing is score. You make the same amount of cbills whether you live or die, and the only thing that matters for hero mechs is that you have them rotated into play at least once, then the bonus applies to the entire payout. I'm like 99% sure about this, because I remember making the conscious decision to drop in a hero mech first so that I'd get the boost no matter what whenever I did FP.

Besides, payout is a flat rate based on damage done, components broken, spotting, etc. etc. + victory or defeat end-game bonus. There's nothing that reduces your cbill amount within that calculation for dying.

With player score in FP events it can make a difference if you can run only one mech for the match if there's one of those "Get X amount of FP score in matches" events going on. It's easy to get 1000+ score in a game if you're involved in killing poo poo and you don't get popped.

I'll have to check in game then, because I'm certain there was a bonus mentioned in the payout screen regarding how many mechs have survived. I could just be going insane! I've never seen C-Bill bonus mechs give a flat bonus if dropped first though.

It takes your ending payout and divides it evenly between the mechs that are played iirc, but you still get the same amount no matter how that is divided. It's a really pointless thing on the end screen.

aniviron
Sep 11, 2014

Commoners is correct, the payout is the same if you live or die, but the XP is divided equally among every mech you used. The only thing that changes is match score, which halves for every new mech you bring out. Lets you do some silly things, had a match score of ~1400 by not dying on my match for today, but match score never really means much.

yeah and honestly i'd probably be having a pretty good time if i was on the other side of it and go along with it tbh, im just salty about the whole "we're doing this to prove a point about balance, blame pgi :smug:" shot, like a team of 12 srm linebackers in a wolfpack wouldnt push in our uncoordinated pubbie poo poo just as well (which was also a thing that happened to me earlier today :v:). lrm-meta sucks but good lord don't pretend like you're trolling for a higher cause, you're just trolling because antagonizing people is a thing you figured out a way to do and get away with

I finally started playing this game despite spending a large chunk of my childhood playing Mech Assault and Mechwarrior 2.

From my academy cash I picked up an ACW-1 and I'm slowly learning the ropes. I'm aiming towards a MCII-A or MCII-B next, but not entirely sure if it's the right thing to aim for.

And holy gently caress this game is grindy. I'm tempted to blow $20 on the MadCat MkII package, but not sure if it's that great of a deal.

I wouldn't spend any money this early, this game is a bitch as a new player and the most likely outcome is that you will get tired and quit really early. I think your idea sounds good, the ACW-1 is a pretty ok medium loaded up with SRMs. You will not have the armor to really brawl but it has the firepower to punch up. The MCII-B is a beast and i sa great mech to learn the game in, no matter what you do you should be able to dish out lots of damage.

Join our discord, link is in the op, to play with other people. The game is kinda half dead right now since it just had a grindy FP event but as soon as the quickplay events come back the population should pick up.

Floppychop
Mar 30, 2012

From the OP it seems that goons mostly play as Inner Sphere. Does that mean I should probably avoid clan mechs?

Skippy McPants
Mar 19, 2009

IS or Clan, it don't really matter. Faction play isn't really a thing outside of events, and in quick play there are no faction restrictions.

Also, the MCII-B is probably one of the safest tier 1 mech purchases at the moment. It neatly doges both PGIs bumbling attempts to solve the Clan Laser meta and their gradual shaving of IS armor quirks.

WoL is back as Liao in preparation of the upcoming (ugh another one) faction play event: https://mwomercs.com/news/2018/08/2121-youre-invited

Why incursion? WHYYYYYYYYY?! I can stand the regular modes with 4 mechs, it's just a mad dash for damage, but incursion...incursion is spending 30 minutes for either a massive megastomp on drooling retards or being crushed 48-10.
