Dadbod Apocalypse posted:yep. once the sec stirs from its ancient slumber and casts its gaze on you, hold onto your rear end. my favorite SEC story, not like i got a lot of em, is the time a business called sand hill exchange was in its infancy. the business idea was simple: a fantasy stock market for companies that were expeceted to go public but had not yet. they had a bunch of beta testers using the platform. it was like a casino game for market and tech nerds. a fantasy^2 stock market for stocks that weren't even listed yet the reason why the SEC bankrupted them is also simple: bitcoin. they decided to allocate bitcoin to their userbase adn back their transactions with them. this immediatly turned their beta testing exercise into an unlicsensed casino i wish i could find it now, but when one of the owners found out he was eing investigated by teh SEC he published a "user traffic analytics" blog post detailing how 50% of their traffic was coming from men in their 40's to 60's using internet explorer and blackberries accessing the internet from the SEC server

Take something that exists and change it to make some private company money instead of being a public good. Or just be impossible like Uber’s flying robot taxis. SV tech bros have deluded themselves into thinking they through their own brilliance and genius changed some stuff so they can obviously do that in any industry because the secret sauce is them! In reality the accomplishment was to be the first to come up with use cases for some new technology. The technology made the changes inevitable - they are essentially just implementing it. It's like when the steam engine was invented. Some guy figured out how to hook it up to a saw which ~¤disrupted¤~ the timber business. Them some guy put wheels on one which ~¤altered the transport paradigm¤~. Another connected one to a pump which ~¤revolutionzed the water space¤~. And so on. Well poo poo guys look at all the disruption only through our will and big smarts! Then they set out to reinvent chemistry, roads and juicers.

Who could expect that you would need that rule .

I would absolutely love to work for a fully funded SEC or CFPB enforcement office. when i worked predatory lending the only thing that made the job tolerable was arguing with sleazy salespeople and killing their deals for the most arbitrary and stupid reasons possible just so i could keep some dumbassed 19 year old off of a motorcycle that was going to cost him $600 a month in payments + insurance out of his $1,500 pre-tax income SEC would basically be arguing with the same low rent boiler room used vehicle sales people, but in penthouse offices where people wore suits instead of shut down ihops converted into salesfloors. shoulda paid me commission instead of an hourly rate, dumbasses cumshitter has issued a correction as of 04:27 on Aug 17, 2018 |
