i once got paid to do some "consultancy" on electric vehicles like 10+ years ago (specifically involving application of a specific drivetrain to them but i didn't really know what i was doing tbh) and one of the few things i can remember is that batteries are super sensitive to their charge and discharge cycle so i can actually legitimately see why they'd hide the "extra range" feature because it's really just using the 10% of the battery that never gets discharged in the normal work cycle because it trashes your overall battery life to do that. so i guess anyone that uses it probably automatically invalidates their battery warranty or whatever.

of course that assumes that battery doesn't just yolo itself out of existence first :tesla:
