The top 2/3rds are fine, it’s the weird curvy bit at the bottom that’s off-putting.

There's always bits of the sonic that look like they should retract and the like The bottom of 12's second looks like it should click in like a pen, and the top bit feels like it should retract into the centerpiece

I really disliked 12's second sonic. My favourites are the simpler ones like The War Doctor's.Edward Mass posted:PLEASE! I've been wanting to make this joke since they revealed it but I didn't want to be the one who made this joke.

It’s the joke that’s continually been made since its reveal, and it’s honestly getting tiresome. And yes, the War Doctor’s is my favourite too.

I like 9/10's since it's easy to carry around Need to replace 11's since it broke, so it's always in the extended position

I still kind of dig the classic series sonic screwdriver that was basically a dressed-up tire pressure gauge.

In my defense, that's not the best design for a sonic screwdriver, and whoever designed it should really have shown someone else their work. I like the yellow, but....yikes.

I wouldn’t mind the curve so much if the top and bottom halves didn’t look so incongruous. The bottom curve almost looks like an afterthought.

They're trying to make it look organic, I think, like some kind of living metal, but it somehow makes it look kind of gross and tacky, like it's the finger of some low budget Buffy villain. The writing staff and the cast seem cool, though, so I'm not going to let one bad design get me down.

The one thing I liked about 12's sonic is that in season 10 they used it as a torch a lot and it created some really good looking lighting for some scenes.

Using the sonic as a more active prop is probably one of the nicer small things about Moffat's tenure. The shades totally count for this, of course, as does using 12's as a torch and 11's flourish to open his up. It's something that I hope stays, because that little bit of physicality and personality counted for a lot. I'm not sure what 13 would do (I could sort of imagine her spinning it in her hand), but I don't want to see it go back to the 'problem solving laser pointer' that it was in RTD's run.

On the other hand, a too-great emphasis on the sonic screwdriver as a tool denies us little moments like this

Once every couple of seasons, I'd like to see the Psychic Paper come back as a device the Doctor attempts to use, only for it to fail spectacularly. It's a good gag.

The flipside of Wendy Padbury taking the body that Moffat stitched together and filling it with the soul of Patrick Troughton was that the notion of,"I must move on after 3 seasons" was part of the package deal

I look forward to the day that I say "Boy, I wish I could see Matt Smith come back and play the Doctor now that he's had a long and illustrious career. I wonder if I'll ever get to see him do his cartoon stretchy thing again," when, from the screen, a voice says "You know, I really think you might."
