I think either 1-B wins but Monoma's team loses (possibly to a OFA copy mishap) or the other way around.

Monoma is only a weird jerk to 1-A, he's probably a perfectly decent person to be around most of the time.

The Twin Impact kid said, "He always takes things too," far this chapter, so I think Monoma is just incredibly extra in general, but as we only see him around Class 1-A his weird rivalry is what we see from him most of the time. I bet he's just an extremely dramatic guy at all times, but 1-A brings out the worst in him and then he gets really over-the-top.

That said, I bet at least some of 1-B are friends, more or less, with him. Some people joined in the cool walk/posing with him last chapter instead of staring at him like he's a freak, after all.

Looking at the team breakdown, it's interesting that Shinso's team in round 1 doesn't have any of the stars of the class. Red Riot and Froppy are solid, Denki's a pretty heavy hitter if he gets a clean shot, and Koda's a good utility player, but there's no jaw droppers. Meanwhile, every other team has at least one star player. You got a team with Momo, a team with Todoroki, a team with Bakugo, and a team with Deku. They're not equal in threat, maybe, but they're all enough to reshape the entire plan around.

Thinking in terms of narrative structure, it's pretty much a given that Shinso's winning his team this round. He needs to be a threat when he goes against Deku, and losing reduces that impact.

Slightly less of a lock, but I'm expecting one other 1-A team to win and 1-B to get two wins, so everything comes down to Deku vs. Monoma. Maximum dramatic tension and that. Can't be sure who's winning or losing in the middle, but Bakugo's team has a significan handicap, and, well, it's Bakugo.

There's four people in the entire class I'd say would make a good team with him. Uravity, Red Riot, Chargebolt, and Deku. It's not that he's completely unable to work with anyone else, but they're the people he knows and has some kind of respect for, and they can provide a connection between him and the rest of the group so he works as part of the team rather than just loving poo poo up solo.

You'll notice that none of them are on his team. And it gets worse, because the rest of the team is Jiro, Sato, and Cero. As in three of the people in 1-A least likely to take charge of a situation on their own. Momo, Shoto, or Iida might not be able to get Bakugo to play nice, but they could at least account for him as an independent actor, plan around him. This team does not have that kind of capability.

I'm predicting a tire fire.

on the other hand i'd say right now is where Bakugou needs a win and Deku needs a loss

remember that 'not working with others' was a fatal flaw in the hero licensing arc and one of the things he's gotta overcome. i don't think he'll do it NICELY but i think he'll step into the leader role for that team, and none of Jiro/Sato/Cero are stubborn people likely to butt heads with him

(also i think Kirishima gets to be considered a headliner ever since the Overhaul arc)

It's not an insult to Kirishima.

He's a major character, a badass, and he's on his way to being a great hero.

It's just that he's also, to outside appearances, just part of the class. Momo and Shoto were recommended, Bakugo won the sports festival, and Izuku's got a record of captures that would be respectable for a pro.

Kirishima's talents haven't been on as wide a display. Also, you know. He's a bit one trick. (he's just really good at that trick.)

bakugou may have won the sports festival but kirishima was mentioned on the news for helping capture a villain during his internship and he was also part of the overhaul raid. on the other hand, most of deku's and all of todoroki's accomplishments are unknown to parties not directly involved because they didn't have licenses at the time (stain and the bakugou rescue were both swept under the rug and nobody's gonna mention deku solo'd muscular because ua'd get in trouble). people like momo or iida don't even compare. if you were an outsider looking in, red riot has one of the best records of the ua first year

I think froppy and red riot have the best records, followed by deku and uraraka. nobody else has really done anything, or if they have then it hasn't been mentioned

The Sports Festival is a national event so winning that means a lot more then Kirishima showing up in a couple of news stories. Also bringing up the raid isn't going to do much for Kirishima's image as if there is going to be a lasting image for the public about the raid that doesn't involve the League of Villains then it is going to be Deku manhandling Overhaul when he turned into a monster.

Manatee Cannon
Aug 26, 2010

the benefits of the sports festival have a shelf life. pretty sure all might explicitly says this. taking down a criminal organization is a way bigger deal and the pros that took part in the raid won't forget any of the students that helped out

bakugou's accomplishments in the public eye are getting kidnapped twice and winning the sports festival. todoroki and momo have done literally nothing. bakugou and todoroki also failed their provisional license exam

I always though it was weird that Deku taking down Overhaul wasn't made out to be a bigger deal than it was. Like, he kicked a giant monster a mile into the air and I don't think it even made the news?

Like, I understand that the League attacking the police escort was a big deal, but give Midoriya some credit.

If Gentle is any indication, most people around the country still just know him as "that crazy kid who broke all his bones during the Sports Festival"

Just how many mistakes have you suffered on the way here?

An uncountable number, to be sure.
Sidestepping Kirishima (although i do think he's a headliner), I don't think Momo is particularly notable at this point. Sure, she got in on a recommendation, but she's done approximately zilch since then. She certainly doesn't stand out above the others in her class.

I really hate that I agree with this, because Momo's been one of my favorite 1A characters for a while. Really pulling for her in this arc, she needs to step up and show something impressive. She has a potentially amazing quirk and is one of the smartest people in the class, we should be seeing more from her than we have.

Momo's a girl in a shounen so she's very likely to job in order to give Class B credibility. Between Todoroki and Bakugo, Bakugo is more likely to win a fight and Todoroki would be pretty chill, no pun intended, with losing.

They would have to explain that there's a girl with a quirk that reverses causality and can even remove quirks. That poo poo is probably all under wraps.

At minimum, it's very downplayed.

When you're trying to keep things calm, two pro heroes dying, kids getting sent to the hospital, and a massive criminal organization being built up under the government's nose all make for bad headlines.

I reread the Stain fight recently because I couldn't remember how it went so I was really confused about people talking about no one really recognizing all the crazy poo poo Deku did fighting Overhaul because I could've swore that they agreed to have it kept under wraps afterwards.

I was going to make a comment suggesting each dorm will look after a kid and show them the ropes or something, but looking over it again each dorm has enough space for 32 people, and each class currently has 20. The whole "do poorly and you'll get replaced by a kid from General or even Support" thing could still be true, but that doesn't mean that a general studies kid has to replace a hero course kid. Like, if everyone in the hero course is doing great, but there's also a general studies kid that's also showing a ton of potential, then what are you gonna do?
