Rageaholic Monkey posted:Some good poo poo that's new from Med School but sounds like something that could've come out 15-20 years ago: The older I've got the more I realise that doesn't matter. Good stuff is timeless. People have better access to good production software these days but the ideas haven't progressed really (not a criticism just an observation).

New Benny L out today. I prefer the B side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v239FXHgpt8 The man is easily my favourite D&B producer of the moment, but I'm not sure I really dig his newer, more minimal direction in his last couple of releases. He's still nailing all the elements that make his tunes perfect rollers: Unabating drum rhythms that stick to the point without superfluous breakdowns, weighted by big round alarming midrange swells that I'm sure truly shine on a large system. But it lacks the sinister intervals, those filter-soaked horn klaxons, that punctuated his earlier and certainly more raw work. Even on 'Sharks' you could tell he was moving away from that sonic signature - the exact klaxon I'm talking about, while my coworkers will note that it still makes me gurn and yell, is sparse, only flexing its muscles once every sixteen bars or so. On cursory listening, this track grips me much more immediately than the A-side 'Horizon', but it still lacks that certain malevolence that made me fall in love with his style. It'll probably grow on me though, these things usually do.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO-pfTNCb5k I think this is Hospital's first ever grime rapper they've signed, but he's got a sick flow and his tracks are produced by his labelmates like Logistics, Nu: Logic and Whiney. I remember listening to a Hospital Podcast that he was on a while back when he got signed and he's a really nice, down to earth dude too, not that you can tell from his preferred style haha

Shameless plug: my buddy Terrence "Tez" Bewsey, producer and founder of the Perth label Good Karma Music, is touring the UK with his MC brother Phillip in late July/early August: Together they're local D&B institutions and have contributed a tonne to the scene here in Perth which is arguably one of the biggest in the southern hemisphere. This tour is kind of a big deal as our local acts rarely get live international exposure outside of singular appearances at festivals (Also Pendulum don't count because well they didn't do poo poo for the Perth scene). So yeah if you're in the UK I hope you get to check them out!

Cyantific's first album in like over a decade dropped today. It's not bad I guess, but there's not too much in the way of new/standout stuff on it. Some bangers like these, but they were released as singles last year, so not exactly new: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBzcfLqvsFM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNorh5zilFo This one was released as a single a couple months ago and it's real good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2pBVCfACaY Definitely not the instant classic that Ghetto Blaster was for me, though. There's a common motif sample-wise amongst old-school tracks which is very easy to capture (I think it's awesome IMO). Unrelated but I've just remembered, a while ago I decided to build up some lists on Twitter for D&B producers/DJs and labels so here they are if anyone is interested (Let me know if there's any glaring omissions, btw I'm the guy on Discogs updating Twitter URLs on D&B artists lol): D&B Labels D&B Producers/DJs Edit: I've got this feeling that I've posted these before whilst wasted. I checked my post history but didn't see them but let me know if I have... Pile Of Garbage fucked around with this message at 19:02 on Oct 3, 2018 |

Durr, my bad, that's his Insta handle. Twitter is @SubmergedBass, and apparently he's never used it. He just tweets straight up as @ohmresistance LOL that his old Myspace is still linked somewhere. That's how we first met back in the wild days of, like, 2004. He messaged me to ask how some random chick from Montana ended up buying his records.
