Peter Wyngarde remains the actor I most wish could have been the Doctor who was never considered or approached for the whole to my knowledge.

It'd be like First Doctor Alfred Burke; Second Doctor John Le Mesurier; Third Doctor Peter Wyngarde; Fourth Doctor Denholm Elliot; Fifth Doctor Bob Peck; Sixth Doctor Jenny Agutter etc.

I liked the story that Wyngarde wanted to have old age makeup and hair and do a funny voice and basically ham it up to the extreme for his part in 'Planet of Fire', and everyone on the crew was like "er, no, Peter." (Which might explain why he seems sulkily restrained.) It reminds me that when he did Department S he wanted Jason King to have a drink in hand at all times, no matter the situation, and people had to practically take glasses away from him before each shot.

I also enjoy speculating about who the Doctors might have been if the character had always been female. I actually really like the idea of the First Doctor in that scenario being played by Jacqueline Hill. :allears:

Of course, revival era Ninth Doctor would have to be Helen Baxendale with the Master played by James Nesbitt. :D

If the Doctor has always been female then the internet shattering news would have been Nick Frost ascending to the role of Thirteen.

Per Wikipedia:

quote:

Richard Griffiths was considered by producers for the role when Tom Baker left.[13] The role of the Fifth Doctor went to Peter Davison.

quote:

Had the show continued past 1989, the producers were again considering Richard Griffiths for the role of the Eighth Doctor.[13]

There was talk about that they’d have to do the K9 trick and cut away whenever Griffiths had to get in/out of the TARDIS.
